The response has also been so gendered in the news though. Women be shrill. |
Because women are the ones that behave like this publicly. Men never let you see them sweat. They cowboy up and go to work...they don't throw a tantrum like a little girl. |
Nah, Strahan was reported to have thrown tantrums behind the scenes a lot. No clue if that's true or his ex-wife's allegations that he was abusive and that he filmed her sister undressing. She allegedly got a pay off. I liked him until I read that. Innocent until proven guilty, but money talks. That said, I would have more empathy for Kelly if she weren't paid millions. For that kind of money working pretty easy hours she needs to STFU and do her job. I know there is more than just the hour on TV, but I recall in an interview she said her hours were amazing for the salary. Be a professional. Part of what comes with that big a paycheck is putting up with the bullshit. If it stresses you out, go hire a top therapist, get daily massages and take all the vacations your job will allow. Eat some organic food. Have some champagne and caviar. Poop on your Toto toilet in your fancy remodeled bathroom and think about how much you have in the bank. Then get over yourself. |
*Behind the scenes (allegedly)* is very different from publicly throwing a tantrum by skipping work and pretending to read that Goliath book for the benefit of the paparazzi. I think she's dug herself into a hole. |
+1 Is she having a perimenopausal hormonal fit? Get it together Kellt. That book thing was ridiculous. His her gay BBF, Andy Cohen, her advisor??? |
I have barely followed this story, but did see an interview with someone from People the other day. Kelly is very upset for a number of reasons. She has been a LONG-time employee of ABC (she was on All My Children) from 1990-2002. She started with Live! in 2000/2001 and also did Hope & Faith from 2003-2006. Even though she was a 25+ year employee of ABC, they did not elect to inform her of potential changes to "Kelly & Michael" until AFTER they were decided. Furthermore, she wasn't told until the press release was going public. So she was learning the same time as the rest of the world. She feels like ABC did not show her any respect by giving her advance notice of the announcement. Kelly was evidently asked to go full-time on GMA a few years ago, but turned it down due to (1) having to wake up at 4:30 AM 5 days a week, (2) the long hours of the show itself (vs. only 1 hour for Live!, except 2 hours on Thursday as they film the Friday episode on Thursday), and (3) Live! is pretty easy work. The People person did not think she was jealous of Michael because Kelly also likes to go out and have a nighttime social life, which would be pretty hard with a 4:30 AM wake-up call daily. Kelly's salary for about 5 hours of work per week is $15 million a year. Again, the People person said it wasn't a jealousy of salary issue. Kelly had a planned family vacation to celebrate her 20th anniversary for Thursday (4/21) - Monday (4/25). She was also pissed that ABC dropped this bombshell on her 2 days before she was supposed to leave. After the announcement was made, she told them she wasn't working on Wednesday. I learned she cancelled the trip altogether. Really sad. Evidently, it was very well-known that they were going to Turks & Caicos for the anniversary trip. |

I think that she also likely feels like she helped walk him through how to be a fun TV personality and now she's got to do it all over again, and nobody bothered to warn or prepare her.
If I got this news that I had to scramble to keep my career together right before I was supposed to leave for a big planned vacation, I'd be annoyed, too. On the other hand, I'm not sure I'd want to look my $15M gift horse in the mouth, either. (What does that expression even MEAN? I mean, I know what it means, but wut? Is the gift horse going to kick you or something if you look at it's mouth? Maybe bite you???) |
|
15:20 again. Ripa also lobbied the Live! producers *very hard* for having Strahan as the co-host. There was a lot of pushback on him initially.
|
The gift horse will be really old, which you will be able to tell when you look in its mouth to see its really bad teeth. So, if it's a gift, you just accept it graciously and don't appear to be ungrateful but nitpicking. |
| Ungrateful BY nitpicking. |
Thanks for answering that, PP!

| Do you think Kelly will recover from this? She is going back, but wonder if she has lost fans. Most of us have been shat on by our bosses at some point and we had to suck it up for our little paychecks. For 10 million a year with amazing hours they could pull a lot more shit than that and I'd stay. So what if this is a sign they don't value the show and it may change to a later time at some point. Heck even if girlfriend only makes 5 million after that she needs to STFU. |
| Just posted and then a thought hit me. Maybe she's anorexic and her hunger and nutrient deprivation made her lose it? |
I think she has that extreme exercise disorder. I forget the name, but it does make you extremely irritable. Over all I like Kelly, but she has handled this poorly. I wish she would have come back, with a fuck you, I can managed this myself attitude. Kill it in the ratings, then negotiate for creative control and more money, next year when her contract is up. Now she's dug herself and the show a helluva hole. Come on Kel, pull yourself up by the 15 million dollar boot straps, and kick some ass. Network TV is cutthroat...ask Letterman or Conan. |
| Was she back on the air today? |
