LOL.. I was thinking the same thing, but it just goes to show how much people hate Boosterthon.. maybe more so than the Principal, whom I actually don't have any opinion about because I have never had to deal with her directly.

I dislike the principal more than the Boosterathon, but they only do the boosterathon every other year. The principal is there everyday. And even if you don't deal with her, she sets the tone for the whole school, which is not a good one.

I don't think everyone has your opinion, though. My DC loves that school, looks forward to it. So far, DC's have *loved* their teachers, and I think the teachers really make the biggest difference. I don't hate or love the school, but I felt the same way about a previous non MCPS ES we were at.

do you think the school is warm? Do you think the principal is warm?

I don't. That's my opinion and I'm entitled it.

What exactly do you do to make RPES warm? Do you sit at your computer with a nasty attitude and lots of complaints/opinions or do you actually take on a leadership role at the school and make a tangible change, attend the events and introduce yourself to other families, step up to chair a committee, etc.?

RPES is far from perfect but if you don't actually help make a change you are part of the problem.

I agree with 17:45. We have really like RPES. You stink, 16:59, and the others are right - you sound like a person that just has a nasty attitude and wants to crap all over everyone else. Maybe you should move to Cold Spring.

LOL... I know a mom whose DC goes to CSES, and she doesn't think CSES is a very warm and welcoming school.

Not 16:59. But that is not very kind. You can disagree without being mean.

Not the PP but yes I do. I thought she was very nice when we were there. The one long term principal before her was cold as ice. That is my opinion and I'm entitled to it.

The difference between Boosterthon and all these other fundraisers is that at least you get something in return, and people generally know that the some of the proceeds goes to the company that is selling the product to the PTA. With Boosterthon, some if not most people (especially non parent donators) think that 100% of the donation is going to the school. That's called a scam.

I honestly don't want more gift wrap, cookies, fancy shopping bags, or whatever.

Then just write a check to the PTA. No gift wrap, no fundraising, 100% goes to the school.

That's what I do. It's also tax deductible that way, unlike gift wrap, shopping bags, popcorn, pizzas, and coupon books. The list is endless!

Very good point.. I will be writing a big fat check to the PTA, and my DC will not be participating in boosterthon.

But don’t write it within a few months of Boosterthon! Part of the Boosterthon contract states that direct donations to the PTA within a certain time frame before or after Boosterthon also goes towards a percentage of what Boosterthon takes..

WHAT!!!!!!!!! Are you sure? This is a joke, right? OMFG!

That is embezzlement. There is no way this is allowed. I would report them to the National PTA and close them down if they did that.

this is the contract

20:47, you may have stayed at a Holiday Inn but you are not a lawyer because you have no idea what embezzlement is or means.

Where did the post go with Boosterthon's sliding scale contract? I guess someone reported it to be deleted. Hmmm?

Isn't it still about 2 pages back?

I think it is clear more people don't like the PTA than the principal.

Pta changes every year. If you don't like it, get involved.

People at RP like the PTA and the principal - there are sour malcontents at every school, and that person is trying to poison this thread.

I'm a PP who stated that I have no opinion on the Principal. I disagreed with the other PP who stated the school/Principal wasn't warm. But, I will disagree with you here, too. You need to be realistic about RP. Not everyone, including that PP, likes RP, the PTA, or the Principal. I have heard some grumblings from other parents about all three of these.

That's not to say that RP sucks in every way because I don't think it does. I think for the most that a good many parents do volunteer at RP. But, don't delude yourselves into thinking that most everyone loves the school. I don't think that's true. I have no idea what the breakdown is, but there are more than a handful of people that don't think highly of the Principal. Again, I have no opinion about her either way, but there are those that have very strong opinions about her.

Don't get me wrong... I do appreciate what all the volunteers in the PTA do, and I also do volunteer, but they are not perfect, and especially those that strongly support the Boosterthon.

I think there is more than one here. I like the principal and for the most part I like the PTA. I realize they put in a ton of extra effort. But there is less of a community feel at this school. Things are decided in a room of 5 or 6 board members and not at the meetings where there should be votes for or against events, fundraisers, monetary decisions, etc... Why bother being a PTA member if you have no say? Instead they try to speed thru a meeting rattling off quick info, getting annoyed if someone raises their hand, all so they can have some guest speaker talk about how to get lice out of your hair. If you have no say and already know how to get rid of lice, what is the point of going to a meeting?
