When you buy Girl Scout cookies, you get cookies, and the money goes to

a. the baker -- 25-35% of the local retail price
b. the local Girl Scout council
c. the Girl Scout troop/group

http://www.girlscouts.org/en/cookies/all-about-cookies/FAQs.html

When you pay money to Boosterthon, you get zippo, and the money goes to

a. Boosterthon
b. the PTA

There would be no cookies if there were not a baker. But there is fundraising without Boosterthon.[/quote]

I like you!!

LOL.. I was thinking the same thing, but it just goes to show how much people hate Boosterthon.. maybe more so than the Principal, whom I actually don't have any opinion about because I have never had to deal with her directly.

I dislike the principal more than the Boosterathon, but they only do the boosterathon every other year. The principal is there everyday. And even if you don't deal with her, she sets the tone for the whole school, which is not a good one.

I don't think everyone has your opinion, though. My DC loves that school, looks forward to it. So far, DC's have *loved* their teachers, and I think the teachers really make the biggest difference. I don't hate or love the school, but I felt the same way about a previous non MCPS ES we were at.

do you think the school is warm? Do you think the principal is warm?

I don't. That's my opinion and I'm entitled it.

I don't know, but I think it should be locked. Isn't there already a Boosterthon thread?

Or 10 Boosterthon threads?

The difference between Boosterthon and all these other fundraisers is that at least you get something in return, and people generally know that the some of the proceeds goes to the company that is selling the product to the PTA. With Boosterthon, some if not most people (especially non parent donators) think that 100% of the donation is going to the school. That's called a scam.

I honestly don't want more gift wrap, cookies, fancy shopping bags, or whatever.

Then just write a check to the PTA. No gift wrap, no fundraising, 100% goes to the school.

That's what I do. It's also tax deductible that way, unlike gift wrap, shopping bags, popcorn, pizzas, and coupon books. The list is endless!

Very good point.. I will be writing a big fat check to the PTA, and my DC will not be participating in boosterthon.

Like I said, I haven't had any dealings with the Principal, nor do I need to or want to, so I have no opinion of her. I think the school is like most schools; like I said, we've been at another non MCPS ES, and it's not all *that* different. One of the things I hate about RP is the overcrowding, but that's not the Principal's fault, though like PPs, I fault her for not kicking Boosterthon out.

I never said you were not entitled to your opinion; I just stated that not everyone has your opinion.

But don’t write it within a few months of Boosterthon! Part of the Boosterthon contract states that direct donations to the PTA within a certain time frame before or after Boosterthon also goes towards a percentage of what Boosterthon takes..

WHAT!!!!!!!!! Are you sure? This is a joke, right? OMFG!

17:35s statement MAY be or have been true, but I also know our PTA said "Hey, if you don't want to give through Boosterthon, then give by writing a check and then doing a memo item for the donation." Boosterthon was raising money for a specific need, so parents who wanted to opt out could write a check for however much and put the name of the specific need in the memo line.

What exactly do you do to make RPES warm? Do you sit at your computer with a nasty attitude and lots of complaints/opinions or do you actually take on a leadership role at the school and make a tangible change, attend the events and introduce yourself to other families, step up to chair a committee, etc.?

RPES is far from perfect but if you don't actually help make a change you are part of the problem.
