I honestly don't want more gift wrap, cookies, fancy shopping bags, or whatever. |
I would never assume boosterthon is providing free services to the schools..nor would I assume that someone has donated the cookies the girl scouts sell. All the fundraisers exist to make it easier on the parent groups volunteer-wise. They provide forms and software and advertising. |
I agree PP... I'd rather do a "buy-nothing" fund raiser. Many schools have had success with that. |
Then just write a check to the PTA. No gift wrap, no fundraising, 100% goes to the school. |
Non parental donators do not know how much Boosterthon does, hence they do no know what service is being provided and to what degree. Also, I really don't want them to take so much class time for this, nor do I like the very public "Larla gets the biggest prize for having family/friends with the most disposable money who donated". |
13:29 - why don't you get off your fat ass, stop complaining and organize a fun run at whatever school has pleasure of your kids attendance? You sound like a real treat. |
Do you know any fundraisers that do minimal work and provide forms and a pep rally that deserve this much compensation? 70% commission up to $15,000 raised by the students (your school gets $5,000 and they get $10,000) 65% commission up to $17,500 raised 60% commission up to $20,000 raised Your school doesn't start making more than the company does until after $32,000 earned. Also, you need to write a non-refundable check for $2,000 a few months prior You also have to pay $3 PER T-SHIRT. 500 kids? Another $1500. But sure, they are a legitimate fundraiser that should come in and pressure the kids for their parents to write a check so up to 70% can go back to themselves. Squeaky clean. ![]() ??? |
You sound like a Boosterthon employee or volunteer |
Gift wrap is 50% proceeds back to the school AND you get the wrapping paper which is actually really nice wrapping paper. So for a $7 roll of paper, you get the paper and the school gets $3.50. So technically you paid $3.50 for the roll of wrapping paper which is a pretty good price for the quality. Also, when our school did this they absolutely told the parents up front that 50% of the proceeds go back to the school. It wasn't shady at all. Lots of people bought it for Christmas and Birthdays. |
Nope, just someone who hates people that complain about work that others do, and never volunteers to help themselves. And I don't even know where Ritchie Park ES is (my kids go to another school). |
How did this thread go from principal to Boosterathon? |
I just told my kid we are not doing it this year. DC was fine with it when I told DC that not all the money goes to the school. |
+1 Unless your school is pretty much all the same SES (which really, how many are there?) this is a pretty crappy thing to do. |
LOL.. I was thinking the same thing, but it just goes to show how much people hate Boosterthon.. maybe more so than the Principal, whom I actually don't have any opinion about because I have never had to deal with her directly. |
The principal used a Jedi mind trick! ![]() |
