They have Boosterthon employees who come in during the day and teach them selling strategies during class time when they are supposed to be learning academic subjects. I have a big problem with that. |
I believe our gift wrap sales also have a pep rally type assembly. |
It's not a 1 time assembly. They go into each individual classroom every day for 9 days and teach unapproved curriculum by non-MCPS employees to students who are required to be in the classroom by law. |
They would not actually fire her. They would just put her in central office. |
They basically go in there to taunt the kids by telling them to make more sales and then handing out prizes to the kids that do, on a tier level of course. The teachers absolutely hate it. |
The parents hate it too. The only people who like it are the PTA. |
They don't encourage kids to go door to door and then come in everyday for 10 days straight to guilt them if they haven't. They also don't give prizes for selling and single the kids against each other. Plus when people purchase cookie dough, wrapping, they know some of the proceeds go toward the company to pay for the items. Plus, you have items to use. If I pay $8 a roll of wrapping paper, they are saying 50% of the sales come back to the school. So my thought is I am paying $4 (typical store prices) for the roll and donating $4 to the school. They are not telling anyone the percentage going to Boosterthon. It is above $20,000!!!!! All for a few college kids coming into do a pep rally and handing out some plastic toys. All that money parents donated that they thought was going to the school. It's criminal. |
You're correct that that is the process, but it's certainly not "unheard of" for an AP to stay longer than two years. Some get off the principal track, others stay longer because there are no principal openings at the end of their two years, some do their internship at their current school and stay on because of those two reasons, or for something else. |
the difference is, you get something for it, and most people know that some of the money goes to the company selling the goods. You get nothing in return for donation with Boosterthon. I also thought Boosterthon benefited the school 100%. And I bet a lot of parents still think this. |
I just emailed them, too, complaining about it. EVERYONE, SEND AN EMAIL TO THEM! |
I would admire and respect the Principal if she got rid of Boosterthon. This would show she cares more about the kids than the money. |
The Boosterthon people are taunting kids? Come on. There is 1 person on this thread who is on a Boosterthon jihad against the world. He or she routinely pops up to spout hateful rhetoric. |
No, there are *many* parents who despite it. I have spoken to a few. |
the principal got an ipad out of boosterathon money. she is never going to do that. |
I am fine with the principal. I guess I haven't had an issue that really needed her attention. She is friendly, knows all the kids by name, always stops and thanks me personally for coming in to volunteer. I would hate to be in a position where parents are more against than for you. Unless there is an issue, you aren't dealing with her. If there is an issue, there is already a negative tone set. And then add that you can come on an anonymous forum and bash her when she can't defend herself. Have you all gone to her and say what the problem is? Have you talked to or written emails/letters with specific complaints and the info to back them up? Otherwise it just seems like a few riled up parents that didn't like what she did/said for one thing and your retort is to come here and cry foul.
Now the Boosterthon, that is a scam. I have to agree with the PP on that. To think that some lower income families are donating to that huge company thinking it is for the school? Makes my stomach turn. |
