+1 on the suggestion not to stress.

Re internet sleuthing, here's a listing I found easily for 2424 Evarts St NE.
"Description
Price just lowered from $5.5m. Large, 2 story warehouse in very good condition, containing office space and work areas, as well as large, open space with 4 garage bays on 2 levels, 12 foot ceilings throughout. Zoned LO/C-M-1, full environmental reports available. Ideal building for a DC charter school.

Evarts Street has excellent access to New York Ave, South Dakota Avenue, and Rhode Island Avenue, for easy access downtown and points north, east and south."

Good sleuthing. Looks to be definitely the site, matches the size, street, etc. I do love real estate agents- "Ideal building for a DC Charter school". Riiiight.

It's smart by Lee to put out that request in the DC Register, they have to do it that way by law, this way they are ready to pick someone and get going if things fall through on options 1 and 2.

Yea, let me guess his/her kids don't go to school in a warehouse next to train tracks and autobody repair shops.

Potomac prep is over 2 miles north of Lee. Did someone here say that they'd said the Brookland backup was within a mile from the current location? It isn't stated in the email to families.

Lee has said from the first open house in 2013? 2014? "Within 2 miles, most likely in Ward 5"

Not true. They said again and again, within one mile. However, that building did not pan out. they haven't mentioned a distance this time around.

Google maps says 1.8 miles, which is close to two but certainly not "over".

I was at the recent open house and I'm pretty sure they said within one mile. But it was kind of hard to hear in the room.

Not sure what makes the supposed Evarts St location (if it is 2424 Evarts, according to the internet sleuths on the board) any better than the Tree of Life location that parents were so upset about... Evarts warehouse seems to have a mechanic next door and the DC Taxicab Association right across the street, and doesn't even have the huge green space that Tree of Life had...

Gigantic open air pit of dusty trash (full of asbestos and lead from torn down buildings)? But I agree 2424 is pretty bad.

Do you KNOW it is a giant open-air pit of asbestos and lead? Or is that the assumption? Because I think there might be rules against giant open-air pits of asbestos and lead.

most likely, but it's DC. It looks like the place torn down buildings go when they die.

In any case, a giant open air pit of trash and debris. Would not send my kid to school there to breath in whatever it is (especially since I'd have trust DC to enforce air and health rules on whoever owns that site).

I take it you haven't seen it. Drive by. It is like 2-3 stories high and have block wide. Bulldozers on top of it. It is really crazy.

Report it to the epa?

someone should. It can't be legal. There are houses just a couple blocks away.
