Has this been confirmed?

Yes, it's been confirmed since last year.

No - very recently they said there were some permitting issues they were confident would be resolved BUT they also said they were working on a couple backups in case the permits didn't happen.

Right, but it's confirmed. It's as certain as it possibly can be where construction is involved. Having back-ups doesn't change that.

I think some folks are going to hear that the permits have been obtained and the backups are no longer needed - and/or for addresses of the backup spaces.

May not be possible but easy to understand why they are anxious.

They 'want to hear'

I think it is a near certainly we will stay 2016. That is the good news. The bad news is that it was made clear to parents just how hard it will be to find a building in the future now that DCPS isn't releasing buildings. This means that we are looking at big compromises in our permanent location. I have decided to enter the lottery because of the possibility these compromises will be unacceptable. It is a hard slog out there for small schools in DC's inflated real-estate market. And Lee is such a great school

Real estate might be the end of any new small charters (the kind with missions that appeal to DCUM posters). Then the existing "HRCS" with lovely buildings will be more impossible to get into.

Agree but no need for the word 'now.' This has been going on for years.

DCPS is supposed to by law release surplus buildings but they do not (Shaw middle is a good example). This is what the FOCUS lawsuit is about. I just wish it were moving through the court process more quickly.

I used "now" because we were told the challenges are greater now. Lee was seriously considering tree of life location just like they are seriously considering the everts street location, though not for 2016. These are the levels of compromise we are facing going forward. The meeting on Friday was eye opening for me. I assumed since schools before us found decent buildings in ok locations so would we eventually.

I feel your pain. I think it has always been bad.

Examples - Wash Latin waited ~8 years to get in final space. LAMB had 'rights' to their Mo Ave building early (before opening) but it was 4-5 yes before that was available. Cap City spent many yes above a CVS and then moved across town (no green space for nearly a decade).

Sad.

This. Lee parents, I know it's hard but you should try to chill and know that this comes with the process. "All these schools" that recently got perm locations have moved 2-4 times over 5 years. You are only in year 2. You're lucky that you will not even have one move in three years of existing. I don't think you understand how relatively well things have been for you.

That assumes that this ends well. Some of the locations under serious consideration look nothing like the permanent locations of Lamb, Cap City or Washington Latin.

But you're up in arms after only one year. MV, ITS, Bridges just got locations. Bridges has been around for how long? You don't know what will come up in the next 5-7 years.

Honestly if strong facilities are what you want, just go to a DCPS.

These are permanent not temporary locations under serious consideration. I personally would be patient with 5-7 years of temporary locations to find a great home, but from the presentation we got last week, permanent locations are what is being pursued.

And that is a choice Lee's board and administrators are making. They no doubt weighed the benefits of waiting for 'better' space to become available versus certainty sooner. I hope for your sake you are happy with the final spot.

Can you stop with the patronizing comments please. The hysterical posters checking here repeatedly about the location aren't current Lee parents. They are prospective parents who are new to charter schools and the lottery. We get our info from the school not DCUM.

There is nothing patronizing about previous comments, just facts. Whether you're a current or prospective parent, you need a reality check, plain and simple.
