Have you heard of Davidson College?

It is in no way "second-tier". I know people who were admitted to schools such as Boston College, Wake Forest, Bowdoin & even Swathmore (with no "hook") who did not get into Davidson.

Signed,
Someone who did not go to Davidson & has no personal connection with the school whatsoever

The school is a good but not quite as good as they to brag. Their graduation job placement is not nearly as impressive as others.

I think the graduation placement is an issue with all liberal arts schools these days.

Never heard of it until I moved to DC. I'm no fan of the south and southern schools.

Well, there's Davidson Institute for Talent Development and Davidson Young Scholars, not related to Davidson College. Or maybe you're remembering that Davidson College is one site for Duke's TIP program, which is analogous to CTY.

Could be either or both. Knew of Davidson College and when friends who live elsewhere told me about DYS as an alternative to CTY, either I assumed or they implied it was associated with the college. Thanks for the clarification!

Heard of it - but I grew up in NC. From what I've read there is some grade deflation

Well aren't you tolerant, liberal and open-minded.

DD would have applied except we heard horror stories about the grade deflation. Some of the most intelligent, thoughtful people I've known went there, including my best friend, who later earned her PhD at UVA. I wish that they'd come to their senses, like Princeton, and give up the idea of grade deflation.

Forbes recently ranked Davidson the number 1 school in the south (ahead of Duke).

hey look - when other people are narrow minded, they're bigots. When I'm narrow minded, then it's ok

Prestigious, small liberal arts schools are pretty much all the same.

Yes, but I grew up in Charlotte

Middle aged Northeastern guy here. Went to college in DC and grad school in the Midwest. I've heard the name of the school, but I confess that I thought it was in Pennsylvania.

Do you prefer the non-diverse enrollment of schools like the U. of Vermont?

That's Dickinson!

I'd heard of Davidson College, and I'm not someone who knows much about liberal arts schools outside of VA.

Davidson is a highly ranked LAC in the south with a fairly unique club system in lieu of frats. I know people who went there, loved it, and got great educations.
