Ugh - Becky. That actress and the character were terrible. |
| Thanks to this thread, I'm binge-watching this now. |
| For those that watched it with their high schoolers, how did you handle all of the underage drinking? |
I'm pretty sure your high schooler is familiar with underage drinking. |
I think it provides a great jumping off point for conversations with kids about drinking. The show doesn't glorify it. Quite the opposite. Drinking is clearly a dysfunctional coping strategy for Tim Riggins. It 's no different than steroid use in the show. |
I love the show, and love Riggins' character. But it does sort of glorify his drinking. We don't see the reality of what all day drinking looks like. . .he couldn't maintain that body and play like he did with this habit. |
| I am watching it again, mostly because the relationship between Erica and Tammi is awesome to see. |
That would be Eric. |
Haha! +1 mom of a goody two shoes highschooler, and she knows the deal. |
? |
Some people can at age 17. |
+1 A young person absolutely could, and do. |
Even the name "Becky". It is all bad. |

I know this thread is really old but I figured this was the perfect place to pose my question or I guess my thoughts - maybe I have no question.
I'm on Season 2. I love the show but I keep wondering - how realistic is some of this? Not just the teenage drinking but the fact that Riggins has been in adult bars numerous times and got into that fight with those adult men. Sure, he has a fake ID but in this small town everyone knows each other (especially the football players) so they all know he is underage. And he seems to have a constant supply of beer which he is able to buy? And his brother pays for this habit? Also, there is a lot of kids just showing up in each others bedrooms. Like the scene where Riggins busts in Lyla's bedroom while she's getting dressed. My parents would A - never allow a boy in my room and B - even if they did they wouldn't just send him up to my room unannounced like that. The behavior seems so adult like that sometimes I find myself forgetting these are teens. Anyone else? Love the show, about to be bummed when netflix drops it in 5 days because I'm nowhere near finishing! |
| ^^ Oh and also how Lyla just up and drives 200 miles to get to Riggins and Jason in Mexico. Her parents allowed this? Her dad didn't even want her to be with Jason after the injury. |
