Thin is good. Skinny is not. |
| I think sometimes it has more to do with how it looks on your frame. My sister has always been skinny and at 45, she still looks youthful and fine. Im 38 and about 15 pounds heavier (still thin and in shape, my sister is very small) and a couple years ago when I did weigh the same as my sister, it aged me. My skin didnt look good, my face looked gaunt, and I just didn't look right. So if you're naturally skinny, you're probably going to look fine. If you're restricting food or over exercising to stay skinny, you'll probably age yourself. |
| 55 |
| Based on my mom, late 50’s to early 60’s |

I will say that friends who run a lot (marathoners) tend to look much older. I think the sun exposure and years of running is really hard on your skin. So I think it depends WHY you are thin.. good genetics or a very harsh routine?
Also - I'm way chubbier than I should be right now and look very haggard. |
| 38....my age right now! For me, its the lack of fat in the face combined with the loss of collagen. I could eat sheet cake for breakfast every day and I wont ever get a fuller face. |
| Timely revival of this post ; I think about this too. I think skinny once in 40s looks a bit haggard unless it’s your natural makeup. I’m 55 , not overweight, but would love to lose about 5 to 10 pounds so I could look slimmer in jeans (feel thick waisted and thick thighs for my size). But thinking of not trying to lose more than a few pounds and just try to do exercises for the waist/thighs. I’m a walker. I feel like I look old lately, many marionette lines popping up so fast so I don’t want to lose much weight and have my lines appear worse. |
It's called "runner's face" and can affect even young runners. Some of the people who run to that extreme are doing it for the mental health benefits. I doubt they care that their face looks gaunt and rugged. |
| I’ve dreamed since college to lose 10 pounds. Now at 54 I guess I’m staying this weight. I don’t drink anymore and exercise every day, so I look healthy. Who am I kidding? This is weight is my “normal” weight. 5’2” 127 lbs |
| Courtney Cox has looked bad for about 20 years. |
| Never. Women in their 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, and 90's will look more youthful being average weight or leaner. |
Right... |
Actually, if you’re looking at length of life, being slightly overweight is the best. |
pfft! |
| I have been between thin and skinny a lot of my life and recently lost all my cheeks (early 40s). It doesn't look good but weight gain just makes it not look good and with jowls on top. Figure, might as well stay thin so at least clothes feel good. |
