At what age does being skinny start to look bad?

Good idea!

And vice versa.

No one started a thread asking at what age being fat starts to look bad.

Im 35 and I’ve just recently started to feel like putting on a bit of weight would make me look better.

Never IMO. You can add/remove layers of clothing but you can't do that with FAT.

Wow really? Didn't think it would be that young. How do you explain the supermodels and celebs over 30 who still look great?
First of all, fat injections and great skincare, far outside the bounds of what the average person can afford. Spending many hours a day working on your body/face/skin will do that.

Second of all, many supermodels carry fat in their face, I have noticed. Almost every single Victoria's secret model has a baby face where if they gained ten pounds they would look almost fat, in their face. (Miranda Kerr, Chrissy Teigen, Behati Prinsloo)

So even though the rest of their body is really skinny, they have that extra padding in their face that keeps them from aging as much. So they basically have the fact of a normal sized person, or slightly underweight person, and the body of a tiny model.
I think it’s a total package thing. One of my friends has always veered on “too skinny,” but has such strikingly gorgeous features - she could have been a model - you wouldn’t notice. I do wish more women embraced being a size 6-10: I think most normal people look nicest at this size.

My daughter on the other hand got her dad’s mother’s build: tall and stick thin. (Unlike me who is built like an ox, lol). I think in that case it looks the best.

Some of the 50-something Ozempic moms in my neighborhood really look much older. Skinny? Yes. But in an old lady, brittle bone, non-shapely legs and haggard face way.

I think you need to compare skinny skinny with skinny in shape. I’m a Pilates instructor and 43 and definitely thin by standards but it’s toned muscular thin. My thin comes from working out, not starving myself. I eat healthy and indulge when I want because I know my exercise levels allow it. Women need to start picking up heavy weights and get off the treadmill and peloton and recognize that toned muscles are so much sexier than skinny legs.

It really depends on your skin pigmentation and where you carry weight.

I am white, fair-ish, and carry weight in my face. Mid 40s.

At 5'7'' 150 I would look heavy in the face and not great in the body.
At 140 I look totally normal - not skinny, not heavy.
At 135 I start to get a more defined face and look fairly slim if not bloated.
At 125 I would have a FANTASTIC body but my face would be rough.

My sweet spot is between 133-138 with little to no alcohol and not much salt. Body is fine at this weight. I do get botox. No filler.

I'd imagine at 55 I will up these by 5 lbs.

This is so funny -- i just had half a pint of Ben and Jerrys. 43 years old, size 2 and I'm just now realizing that i probably would look better as a size 4.

America who is so fat … justifying fatness and trying to shame normal weight is hilarious.

My mother is 79 and skinny/toned not old-lady skinny. Staying in decent shape throughout her life has helped immensely! She’s restarted weight training with a trainer recently but always done yoga and Pilates, as well as stationary bike. And cardio classes at her gym…cardio drumming is her fave and has helped her arms stay strong. She is 5’9” and *maybe* 125lbs, but she doesn’t look scrawny she just looks lithe and impressively strong for her age. You can see it in how she walks and moves.

She’s my inspiration.
