How often do you go out for ice cream

You'd better believe it, PP.

Self-indulgence on this board is truly taken to the next level, because there is no economic constraint to rein it in.

Gross.

Wow...I never really thought about it until this thread, but we rarely go out for ice cream. I will buy ice cream bars or a half gallon for the kids and dh. I don't eat it very often, and when I do I usually make my own vegan ice cream. We might have to go out tonight as a special surprise.

Maybe not just once a year, but 5 times a week? How is that a treat? It's a staple.

Admittedly, we don't make as much as the other DCUM posters, but even if we did, I can't imagine blowing $400/month on ice cream! (I'm going with $20 per time x 4 times a week x 4 weeks.) No way that fits into our budget after mortgage/daycare/student loans. But, even if it did, I'd say get a couple gallons of ice cream and eat it on the back deck!

It depends - if we're on vacation at the beach then we might have it most days we are there. I'd say on average we get it once or twice a month when we're in town in the summer. We enjoy walking over to the cute ice cream shop near us.

I'm sad for your kids.

Well, thanks, but I'm that poster and I'm not sad for them. They eat ice cream from the ice cream truck about 1x every other week. We have a constant supply of ice cream and popsicles in the fridge. We have cookies or brownies on hand most of the time. They have a big basket of all kinds of candies (b-day party favors, salt water taffy from the beach, etc.) I mean, come on people. Just because we don't go OUT to eat ice cream doesn't mean they don't get anything good. I just can't really deal with schlepping the three of them to Sweet Frog to spend $20 3-5x per week.

Your children are clearly deprived. I weep for them. Tears of pure rocky road.

Probably 3 or 4 times a year. We don't have sweet tooths in our family. We do go out for pasta though

-Ice cream: 2-3x a week after swimming,
-Frozen yogurt: 1x a week, but we walk 2 miles to the frozen yogurt place and 2 miles back
OR
Italian ice: 1x a week, walk 1/2 a mile there and 1/2 a mile back
-Vacation: all bets are off

When we're at the shore, at least once a day, occasionally twice -- seriously, they have the best ice cream place where we go. It is insane.

Back in the real world, it's more like once a month, maybe twice? Nothing's as good as our vacation place, so it's kind of a let down for the grownups (admittedly, our kids wouldn't care and would probably love ice cream daily!).

Rarely, but my son doesn't like ice cream. He does like italian ice/sorbet, but he typically has a strawberry popsicle at home for his snack at night.

Mcdonalds ice cream sundae with Carmel or got fudge = $1

1-2x/month in the summer is plenty. Call me cheap but it ends up being about $5/person at the ice cream place, and there's no way I'm dropping a $20 multiple times in a week for ice cream. For me it is about cost. We tend to have ice cream half gallons at home during the summer and it takes about a month or more to use one up, so maybe we're just not into it?
