Of course they care. They'd care if it was only $5. They care, not because of the amount of $, but because someone noticed and appreciated them. And ran after their truck!
I think it's awesome. Love the McDonald's idea. This year these guys are going to get swarmed with chicks running after them with McDonald's gift cards and it's going to help make their days brighter! |
| My dh is a cop..nobody chases him down and gives him gift cards. |
Because DH's purpose is punitive while garbage men make your life easier by getting rid of the crap you don't want. I can't think of a time when their purpose is punitive other than when they strike. |
| Please don't give your mail carrier cash at all, and please don't give them a gift greater than $20 in value. They can be fired if they accept it. |
You are the dumb one. They go to many houses, not just one. And the home owners are not their bosses so they are tipping, not giving bonus. |
THIS. In other words, keep tipping and upping the ante, BABY!!!!!!
|
Oh Lord, here we go. I know mail carriers who rake it in every holiday season. They can afford a nice Christmas for their family because so many people are so generous to them. Because they deserve it. WHO is going to tell??!! YOU??!! Really, I dare you myself. |

Thank you 15:07 who had the only actual answer to op's question! and thanks for the McD's gift card idea!
so to those of you who tip, $10-20 per garbage collector? how much for the mail carrier? |
| Hi PP! OP here: our trash collectors are exceptional workers. Last year we did $15 per person. Probably the same this year. |
Not the cop's wife but her DH's purpose is not punitive; his purpose is to uphold the law. If someone is being punished, it's due to their own free will in choosing to break the law. Feel free to give the officer's DW your address so he knows not to show up when you need his services. But of course he will anyway, regardless of your attitude towards him. Because he's that kind of man. |
Let's see....tip the trash collectors or tip the police who while doing their job to uphold the law which they are being paid to do, paid to show up when called, etc. Both have difficult jobs but Mr. Policeman is no better than Mr. Garbageman. They both have jobs to do. And by the way, not everybody is punished because they 'chose' to break the law. Plenty of innocent folks can attest to that but I digress. I choose to tip the garbagemen. Have a nice day. |
Maybe the reason nobody chases down dh to give him a gift card is that they might get blown away if they chase him. Unintentionally, of course. But seriously, like garbagemen, they do jobs most people don't want. You might remember that garbagemen too. |
PP here. Meant to say you might remember that about garbage men too. |
Same here. I encounter the same garbage men twice a week who wave when they're pulling off from my house. I've never had a police officer wave at me other than to wave me over with 50 others to check car registrations. Upholding the law. |
In your zeal to defend PP's husband, your nastiness and accusatory attitude got in the way. Now you have opened up a can of worms that shouldn't be here. Nobody hates cops but your attitude doesn't help. |
