Beer could be swiped by minors, and you would be liable.

I repeat: Do NOT tip sanitation workers. This is a NYC-only phenomenon and we need to keep that madness in check.

So you're cheap and the rest of us can't spread holiday cheer because of it? Got it. My garbage collectors have grabbed three kids' worth of stinking diapers. I am going to tip.

No, I'm not cheap. Tipping is reserved for people who make low wages. This is like the tip jar at Starbucks or the ice cream shop: WTF?
And you don't think garbage men making $120 a day is low wages. Okay, whatever.

That’s more than our preschool teacher makes!

+1 This is why I never even consider doing this. We have different people constantly. Not to mention that they often leave at least one can in the middle of the driveway so that I can't pull into my driveway after they've been by. I also don't tip the mail carrier--not the same person every day either and our mail service is crap.

I don’t give Xmas gifts to the garbage men, postal employees, ups, etc. I do however give a nice gift to the janitors in my building.

We have at least 4 different mail carriers, different garbage collectors too. Not sure how to go about this...

I put a wrapped box on top of each box labeled to them. Inside is cookies and 2 envelopes. $20 each. So it is $80 total for garbage and recycle. Never had an issue.

Yes. And I give a bag of money to a small boy to run and get me a Christmas goose. Because I like to spread cheer and the alternative is sad and dismal.

No. No. No. A bag of gold coins.

The lawn guys, the garbage men, the recycling guys, the mailmen, teachers, music and dance teachers, the school front office, and yes we even give something to the crossing guard! That's about 15 people and at $10 each, it's $150. They have jobs that effect my family greatly and are very good to us when we leave out lots of bags or large items. I appreciate them. I'm glad they are well paid for their job too. My kids love making the deliveries and it puts them in a real Christmas spirit. As for catching them, it ain't easy. I live in a pretty secure neighborhood and use a huge bow and tie them to the tree beside the curb.

If you have multiple mailman, etc., just give leave a card. It's the thought that counts. You can also leave a box of inexpensive chocolates or cookies. We usually take them back to the main post office and share (if you're fast enough that is!).

Just flash them your titties.

I put bows on top of the booze bottles with a tag that says to my garbage man with thanks. I let them sort out who gets what.

If someone does a personal service for you, you TIP with $$ during the holiday - don't be a SCROOGE! Spread the joy!

So someone making $30K a year in DC (i.e. the trash truck men) could care less about getting $20? How out-of-touch with reality are you?

I know plenty of people in this income bracket, so just letting you know that a $20 tip is lame.

People making $30k aren't necessarily destitute. Put it in terms of YOUR income. Say you make $150k. Your boss tips you along the same tipping scale. Would you really care about a $100 tip? If you're being truthful, you'll admit that it would be lame.

I've got awards in work basically worth the price of a movie. I've never being unhappy with them.

We are not the boss of the garbage guys anyway. WTF are you talking about?

+1. I make 80k. I'd be pretty happy to get an extra $50 any day.

I live in a different state and I pay for my trash pickup. It’s a private company. This year I tipped both our guys $20 each in the envelope and gave them magtec flashlights along with hand warmers in the gift bag. I appreciate the guys and all they do all year round. No we are not crazy or cheap and we pay for our service and we do it anyway.

3 man crew....20 dollars each in a card. They come early so I just run out and hand the cards to them. They’re great and it’s a hard job.....don’t be a Scrooge people!
