How much do you weigh & What size do you wear? Vanity Sizing?

It means clothing manufacturers are making clothes bigger so people won't feel bad about buying bigger sizes. The same pants that are a size 8 today were a size 14 years ago, for example. That's why the whole "Marilyn Monroe was a size 12!" thing is such a joke. She may have been at the time, but her body would have fit into a 4-6 today. Wedding dresses are often cut in the 'old' sizing, which is why you'll often wear a bigger size in them than in your 'normal' clothes.

I'm 5'8", 148 pounds and I wear between a 6-8 in most brands. The 8's always gape at the waist

I am the same height, a few (maybe 5-6) lbs heavier, and wear a 12. I think I'd have to be about 135 to wear a 6. I am pretty solid too, but maybe not as much as i thought.

Agree BR is the worst. I'm 5'7" and 122 lbs and I swim in some of their size 2 clothes.

Huh. I can't fit into any BR clothes. I'm the 5'6" 163 pound poster above. Classic pear shape. I am way too big for their cuts.

That's strange sizing then! I am 220, 5'7 and can wear some L/XL shirts and just wore a XL dress to a wedding this weekend.

160 and wear a 10, but sometimes have to throw on some spanx.
Was 145 before getting pregnant and also wore a 10
Was 130 a few years ago and wore a 4 but looked like skelator.

5'4", 185 and wear a 12 in dress pants and a 32 (14) for jeans. I am in the process of losing weight and my size 14 work pants fall off me. Mostly L and some XL for tops.

I have friends who are 3 inches taller, 10 pounds less and we still wear the same size clothes.

its all about muscle mass.[/quote]

I'm having a hard time believing that. A woman who's 30 lbs more than pp and several inches shorter wearing the same size doesn't add up to "muscle mass." Something's off. I think it's where they're buying clothes and the vanity sizing. I don't think these women have the same waist measurements.

I'm the first pp in these quotes. I have a little waist and carry my weight in my hips/thighs. could probably wear smaller tops by a fair amount. Still surprised.

5'2, 120, size 4. 2 is too small and 6 is too big.

Weird, I'm 5'7, 128-130 and I'm a 2/4.

I have a huge tummy - that's where I carry my weight. Forces me to a 12 or even 14 even though I'm only 163 pounds.

Vanity sizing is alive and well. I haven't gained or lost any weight, and when I went to buy the exact same brand/type of jeans that I have always worn in a size 8, I am now a size 6. (Loft, if anyone cares to know the brand)

I also buy a lot of tops at LL Bean. Usually a medium, but the last one I bought in a small. It's enormous on me.

I'm 5'-0" and 133. Currently dropping weight. I'm a 6, sometimes 4. At 15lbs heavier I was an 8.
Hoping to drop another 15... guess I'll be a solid size 4 then.

I agree that BR is awful for pear shapes and/or long waists. Regardless of whether I am in shape or out of shape, I never fit into their clothes well. Tehir waists run way too short for me and always hit me like right above my pubic bone, and/or the back gaps out above my butt where my waist goes in. Then, they'll be super tight in the thighs, but gaping and too long at the bottom. It is like a tragi-comedy. I look insane in any BR clothes, no matter what shape I am in.

5'1 115lbs, currently dropping weight. I carry evrything in my waist and back (have lots of "back fat"). No boobs, butt, or hips. Size 1 in jeans, 2 or 4(because of belly) in slacks, can fit a small top, but because of belly, I get med. Still trying to drop 10lbs more.
