Is it a competitive school?

Could that mean he was found hanging? (hung?)

I don't know how someone could be simultaneously hanging but standing. I just shudder to think of all this.

To die you don't have to hang yourself from a height. He could have hung himself by tying a rope at the height of his head then lifting his feet off the ground. The weight of his body and the noose is what would asphyxiate him. Once unconscious, his feet would relax and hang back down to ground level. He might look like he was standing. I know two teenagers who hung themselves from heights less than the height of their body.

How horrible. You would have to have the willpower (for lack of a better word) to keep your feet lifted from the ground. Just horrible. I have been thinking a lot about this poor boy and his family.

My husband used to be a crime scene investigator. He once investigated the death of a man who hanged himself by tying a rope around a post in his yard and leaning forward on his knees. You want to talk about willpower.

My brother killed himself by wrapping his belt around his neck and putting the buckle hole through the hook you hang clothes on in the car. The door was open and he 'sat down' in the space between the seat and the door. If he didn't want to die, all he had to do was stand up. Since there were no scuff marks, no signs of s struggle, no disturbed rocks (it was in a gravel driveway), he apparently really wanted to die.

I feel so sorry for what that family is going through.

I've been trying to find out if they've announced cause of death. This case has been on my mind big time.

Unconfirmed, but I have been hearing things from people who know people who participated in the search party and there is talk of him hanging from a tree. I Have a hard time even typing that. I, for one, have been looking for any tidbit of info, first he was missing for a week, then this. There were a lot of HS students in the search party so take this with a grain of salt. It fits what I have learned from the news, and the FCPD attitude about the case.

I think if the police suspected anything other than him disappearing on his own and then later suspected anything other than suicide, they would have announced they suspected foul play. The public would be up in arms if there was a potential predator on the loose and we were unaware of this for over a week.

I've read about the possible hanging on several sites now and I will have a hard time not picturing that in my head the next time we ride those trails.

Agree that it was horrible for the police to tweet that! What in the world?

The tweet came on the personal account of one of the newscasters on the scene reporting during the search. She happened to be there when they discovered the body and had live footage. The searchers said that the police were trying to keep the press out and she violated their requests. The news channel did NOT go with the presumption of suicide and only reported the finding of the body. SHE took it upon herself to speculate based on what she overheard, to post that horrible "tweet". She has NOT rescinded it and it is currently still up. I have been waiting to see them require her to take it down. I even responded saying it was so wrong for her to do that. She is to REPORT the news.. NOT make speculations or include her opinions. Her name is Peggy Fox from News channel 9 USA9 https://twitter.com/PeggyTV I am still praying for another outcome.

A Fox newscaster. Big surprise there.

Oh, whoops. My bad. Her last name is Fox...she's not with Fox News.

"A Paypal account has been set up to help the family pay for funeral arrangements and the expenses of a private investigator to look into Bryan’s death."

That doesn't sound like suicide to me.

This is just a board posting so obviously nothing verified in any way, but I'm just putting it out there.

I know people are speculating all kinds of stuff, but let me state that my next door neighbor is a close friend of the female volunteer who found Bryan's body. She confirmed it was a suicide, Bryan hung himself from a tree, so don't expect to hear any more on the news about this. And I can confirm that this is the second Woodson student who committed suicide since August, who also came from a military (Navy) family. I did not know the Glenn's, but I do know the family of the other student since my younger son is in the same class with theirs."

I so don't want to get graphic but in the event the poor boy took his life in that way, I am still confused as to the donuts and the two open bottles of water. It was hypothesized elsewhere that should a person wish to take their life, sadly, with an overdose of pills, the donuts would have formed a base to stave off effects that might sidetrack the plan, and the water was to ensure enough pills could be washed down.

Horrible story.

I also remember hearing about the donuts and wondered why he'd be picking up donuts if he was planning suicide.

Suicide rates for males aged 15-19 are about 15:100,000. As high as 45:100,000 in some states and closer to 7:100,000 in other states. At the average rate that is 1 in every 6700 males in that age range that commits suicide.

Two at one school is higher than the average rate but suicides tend to cluster.

That is a crazy statistic. I have a young son now, but I appreciate you raising awareness. Something to think about when my son is younger. (sorry to go somewhat OT) My heart truly goes out to this boy's family.

It's suicide. It doesn't have to make perfect sense. In college, a close friend of mine committed suicide. The day before, he turned in a research paper for our class. If he was planning suicide (which he was, he bought a gun the week before we later found out), why bother with the research paper? The thing about suicide is people are not in their right minds when they do it. They do strange things. It's not always possible to understand their thought process leading up to the suicide.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Bryan. I can't imagine their pain.

+1 Kind of bears out the PP's assertion about people posting under the guise of asking for prayer when what they really want is a forum to speculate about someone else's tragedy. Disgusting.

Jeff - are you out there? Can you shut this freak show down now?
