"The searcher who found the body told 9News that he and other searchers must have walked by Bryan Glenn's body several times before finding him, and thought it was another of the searchers. The body was standing under a tree, searchers told Peggy Fox."

Not shocked that you are an atheist. Ive never met a compassionate atheist. The kid is dead. His family is in pain. Leave the thread alone if you disagree. His death and their suffering should not be the place you pontificate about the evils of prayer. And no I'm not religious, but this is not the place for your self-centered shit.

Then you need to get out more.

I think it is very unfair for you to think that those of us who don't pray, don't show compassion. There are LOTS of other ways in which I show compassion for those hurting - I volunteer at shelters, I donate lots of money, I am involved with the community.

It is this notion that praying is the answer that irks some of us. You offering up a quick prayer is no more compassionate then me thinking of this poor family and silenting hoping for some peace for them.

I don't pray. But this thread is not the place to be proseltyzing for nonbelief. Do it elsewhere.

It's suicide, you guys. Not some weird killer. So horribly sad.

How does one kill themselves so as to be left standing beneath a tree? For a week?

The body was barely been spotted from the path. The searchers said the body was found upright with the head looking down, so the searchers actually thought it was another person searching when they had first gone by the area.

Fairfax county sends rescue units around the world.

It has a huge public safety building and I guess no one knew we didn't have 911 in the derecho:

What about the canine units?

While I disagree that we should be offering personal opinions on this thread, I in my heart of hearts believe that Fairfax County could have done more to find the body. This is my personal opinion, having seen them in action. Being the largest (whatever) does not excuse or deflect them from anything. This family did not need to go through more days of this than necessary. There are too many public agencies that are just plain lazy in this area. If this was my family, God (or whomever) forbid, I can't even pretend to imagine.

Assuming most of us are parents, please think of this family today. Presumably this is our worst night mare and did not have to happen.

"Runaway" status was on this boys public "missing" flyers? Is this some sort of odd "requirement"? Please. What on earth are we paying for in our counties? Christ.

Oh, you're right -- religion often prevents people from being kind. There's that.

Take the atheist argument to another thread!! I get so sick of you people threadjacking normal threads to bash each other for being religious or not being religious.

I know plenty of people who claim to be "christian" or whatever and when push comes to shove, they show their true colors which are not conducive to "do unto others as you'll have done to you". So that argument means nothing in my book, and most people I know.

12:28 ITA. The threadjacking is out of hand. This thread is no place for one's religious views. I cannot understand the self-centeredness of some people. They just don't get it.

Peace to this family.

Self-awareness is not your strength, is it?

It shouldn't have to be said, but apparently it does. This is not a thread to discuss religious or non-religious views. Any further such posts will be deleted.

I heard this too and it sounds very odd. Why Did the police not see him when they searched? Do they think it was a suicide?

Maybe he hung himself? That's what jumped into my mind.

But if he was standing under a tree, he could not have gotten himself down from the tree after he hanged himself. He'd still be in the tree. It's very odd. Nothing is adding up so far. I assume details relevant to the investigation are not being released. That poor family.

RIP Bryan.

Where are people hearing that it is suicide? Not that this fact makes it any less tragic.
