This young man was found dead. Those of you who pray, please pray for his family.

Praying.

Ugh, these public requests for prayers and the subsequent responses turn my stomach. They're so impersonal and perfunctory, like prayer is something you check off your to-do list before moving on to the "I'm a manwhore, ask me anything" thread. (And I'm an atheist.)

Not shocked that you are an atheist. Ive never met a compassionate atheist. The kid is dead. His family is in pain. Leave the thread alone if you disagree. His death and their suffering should not be the place you pontificate about the evils of prayer. And no I'm not religious, but this is not the place for your self-centered shit.

I've been following this story and it's awful. That poor family.

Just because religion isn't a part of your value system (and your response has left me wondering whether you lack one generally), doesn't give you the right, duty, or even the opportunity to respond the way you did.

Clearly you weren't raised properly, because if you were, you would have recognized this is one of those times where if you have nothing nice to say, it's best to say nothing at all. That has nothing to do with believing in God or prayer.

My prayer for you, OP, is that you find the peace and joy you lack in your life that would cause you to utter such a remark. Life's too short to have such a nasty disposition, as the death of this young man demonstrates.

What is the cause of death?

I'm an athiest (and compassionate) and PP, I think this was the wrong thread to express those sentiments on.

I will be thinking of that family today.

While everyone in this thread is at it, can we say a prayer for that poor little missing girl Jessica Ridgeway in Colorado?

Lord, in your mercy: Hear our prayers.

I am religious and I agree with this. Further, I think people post these threads in this way to draw attention to the story because they really just want to discuss what happens but somehow feel like just saying that is too wrong or something.

My prayers are with his family and those of the missing. Those stories make my blood run cold.

Details of this case chill me. The poor boy's body was found "standing up, looking down" against a tree. I just don't understand that. How does that work?
