How often does your spouse come home very buzzed or drunk from evening work related events?

Exactly. It's suburbia. "Coo-coo" bird notwithstanding, you children have a significantly greater chance of being killed on the highway in the suburbs than they do in an urban environment. As PP says, "how else are you going to get home?" I'll walk home, take a bus, train, or $10 cab ride.

Is he in any sort of biz dev role? I'm in sales to te fed gov and it is pretty much expected that we run hard and play hard. It is not uncommon to take industry people out and shut the bar down. In my space, drunkeness is quite the norm. What is considered acceptable would get most people fired in a different industry.

?

Really? You are taking your government clients out until 3am on work nights? I kinda find that hard to believe. If you are going out to bars that actually fill up with people on weeknights, then you are all probably at least a decade (or many decades) older than the clientele around you. And if you are going out elsewhere you are probably the only people in the bar.

I suppose you have never been to Jacksons in Reston.

Or anywhere in Reston Town Center for that matter...

Yup, the tech and tech sales epicenter of the federal world.

Good grief, I'm so fucking sick of Jacksons. If I have to go to one more event there I'm going to scream. Now any chance I get I try to suggest somewhere new. I was finally successful having a business parter rent out a provate room a McCormicks, but of course at everyone is at Jacksons

right because there are no drunk drivers in DC. The roads are like a ghost town on weekend nights and the place with tumbleweeds during happy hour. I mean last time I was in Adams Morgan, nobody and I mean NOBODY was in their car let alone drunk.

its a lot harder to get a DUI in DC. I certainly tried. Easier to spot weaving in the burbs.

Drivers inc, they are awesome!!

They pick you up, drive your car while you are in the passenger seat and they have someone else following in another car. They drop you off with your car and home and head off together. It is about double the price of the taxi, but worth every cent.

I'm a poster who is in sales as well and in my work culture, going out for drinks is expected. A lot of deals happen at bars. My company strongly encourages us to use Drivers Inc and we can even expense it.

The farthest west they go is Reston Town Center (epicenter of professional working drunks), however they will drive you anywhere west if you need it. They just won't do an initial pick-up father west than RTC.

I'm married to one of those. His hours are too long to attend those things. He'll have some drinks at "roll-off" parties, but those are infrequent.

Certain consultant firms are known for college/party like atmosphere. DH went independent about 10 years ago so doesn't have to network anymore.

Oh yea, and they can teach you how to drive stick shift, that can come in real handy if you are traveling out of the country and renting a car, as driving an automatic is relativly uniquely American.

I saw the worst drunk crash of my life in DC. Someone right in front of us got in a major accident, the car looked like it was in a pinball machine. SOMEHOW a passenger managed to get thrown out of the back window. The bloodied body lay crumpled in the middle of the road. It was 2AM, people were everywhere, I'm sure 95% of the people, including drivers were silly drunk.

Very true, there are a lot of assholes from the suburbs drunk and driving around DC every night. But at least you can't get much over 30 mph.

This is the thing. To get home to the burbs you will be on wide open roads and it just a matter of time until that DUI happens.

I went ot GW and ALL my friends had cars...and apartments/houses off campus.

That is what happens when you are rich a spoiled. No shortage of DC kids driving aroud DC drunk. I was one of them. Luckily everyone survived.

To say that DC is a non car city is either niave, or stupid. DC is a far cry from NYC.
