I'm sure school leadership is on this board. Try to learn something here.

New YY parent here. This is the message I'm getting. Personally, I don't care much about the DC CAS since my DC is an entering pker, but it's well, odd, that not one parent out of the 200+ families already at YY don't mention these eagerly anticipated first scores on the school's own listserv. The silence is deafening.

Perhaps people are expressing any concerns or questions privately to the school. How would you feel if your child was in that group and other parents started weighing in publicly with the kinds of criticism you seem to feel are necessary?

This is 10:37. I think that may have come across as bitchy which I didn't intend. But, I do know that people express concerns privately (as I have) and are not met with the negative responses that you here about here. It's really important to remember that the people who are on this board are not remotely representative of the school as a whole.

Thanks for posting this. I do hope those from YY are actually taking notes not just monitoring and reacting to everything they deem negative.

Notice how many teachers have left since she started?[/quote]

Your point? Maybe they needed to go.

I am in the minority here. I turned down a slot at YY after a meeting with YY's top administrators. Without giving away the details of the meeting, the way they conducted themselves completely confirmed what has been echoed on this and other boards about YY administration's inept or its academic rigor. If an incoming parent could be treated with the attitudes including "no room for disagreement," then what's expressed by current YY parents is valid and believable in my book. As disappointing as the meeting was, I was so relieved that I made the right decision to withdrawl. Just adding my 2 cents.

As a Yu Ying parent, I would personally never use the google group forum to criticize the performance of people's children (who are on the same list!) on one test. It is tacky and inconsiderate. Maybe the "silence is deafening" because most people have good manners at Yu Ying?

YY's E.D. came out with a self-contratulatory note boosting the scores which BTW are quite embarrasing. "We're thrilled with... the results" so she wrote.

Completely surprising Not even a mention.

Maybe because they are "all thrilled" anyone who might not be as thrilled as they are will be labled as a troublemaker. Parents, as a poster mentioned, probably just decided to be quiet.

Well I am 16:29. I did not mention the CAS scores because they do not concern my DC. My child is above grade level in English and at grade level for Chinese. On top of receiving the necessary academics from the school, DC also receive extra enrichments from the school's after school program. So yes, I am thrilled with my child's results and frankly my dear that is my primary concern. FWIW, I may not speak up, but DH is not a pussy as someone on another thread labeled their DH. He has and will continue to speak up to the staff when warranted with no fear of reprisal taken out on DC. Ha, they wouldn't dare. Between the two of us, that entire school, board, administrators, et al would be tied up in court litigation for years. [

This is super scary. I am in shock. Is this really how many parents think and operate around here? No wonder there is a culture of fear at this school. If there is a good number of parents who think like this a) I don't care about anybody's test scores but my kid's. And b) don't dare mess with me because I will sue you into oblivion...talk about a bully, then all is lost at this place. How toxic. That attitude must permeate everything and evertone. Sad and scary.

10:40 again. I do appreciate your comments and also hope that the administration checks in to these boards. At the very least there is clearly room for improvement and the future of the school depends on it. So for everyone who has been weighing in--how would you propose parents encourage this in the administration? I'm sure this is not unique to YY and has relevance for all of us. What have people done at other schools short of ousting principals? Should the board play a role? I'd be genuinely interested in constructive thoughts.

Well, remain in shock. What are your school's CAS scores and what are you doing for those who failed to make proficient. Do you tutor those children. Are you giving extra monies for their enrichment classes. Please tell Miss Sad and Scary, what exactly are your contributions in bringing up the CAS scores for those children who failed at Your DC's school.

13:27 you are not alone. That is why we turned down YY too. Grateful to get into another charter where they don't have the 'tude.

Not the PP, but yes, my neighborhood school's CAS were low last year, and I gave generously to the PTA to hire tutors. It may have made a difference, as there are fewer BB scores this year. I hope others consider this option, or, as metnioned before, directly tutoring.

Oh, just stop. Nobody wants you to be constructive on this thread, it's just for hating. Go on and take your suggestions where they'll be valued, leave us to our knives.

I am the pp and you chose the wrong person to get sassy with. YES to all of the above and the cas scores at the school are rising for all subgroups. In fact a large number of parents at my kids school could answer yes to those questions. Maybe that's why it is a pleasant place to be and having some success.

So what is YY's listserv used for? Coordinating whether one should bake brownies or cookies for bake sales? Seriously, not one mention by a parent about a school's eagerly anticipated first scores on a school's listserv speaks volumes about YY's administration and not about the parents' manners. Looks like the parents at YY are too intimidated to say anything constructive or offer any opinions that could be inferred as a criticism however slight.

No one even mentioned the dual track where the kids who can't keep up will only get 3 hrs of Chinese per wk in later grades. I had to learn about it on DCUM.
