Arlington Travel Tryouts

Throwing this year out because of the age change I would say on ave about 40-70% of kids on pa1 go to nl team and maybe one or two at most from pa2. The rest go to rl if they stay with about the same percentage from pa2 and maybe 1 or 2 of the biggest kids from red. You will be surprised how many big kids are picked from outside the club. For whatever reason pa1 kids are usually smaller than most other clubs and for u13 they seem to want to add size with outside players.

Get better? More like donate more... no?

Maybe silly question, but why do clubs favor the big kids? Isn't soccer one of the sports where size shouldn't matter that much? Fast, sure, but I don't understand big.

I think they are seeking the edge it can give you in the short term. Watching last night at try outs, they def favored the bigger kids

You cant teach smaller technical kids how to grow but you can teach bigger kids technique. Not saying it's full proof or right but that's the ideology.

There are some kids on the Arlington Academy teams who are only there due to either politics or money. They don't get much playtime, but it takes away from truly deserving kids. My son is on a lower team but cares more about playtime than the team she plays on. In our experience with Arlington, there is a glass ceiling for the Red players moving up to the Academy. Maybe 1 per year. (I did that on purpose)

Question: Shouldn't ASA Red players all be good enough to be on their Academy team? I understand if they pick up one or two great outside players, but if not all the ASA top players are not making the Academy team, something is wrong.

ASA Red is no longer the top team in any age group. They have Pre-Academy 1 and 2 ahead of that now. Pre-Academy 1 and 2 go down to one ECNL team at U13. The Red team becomes the ECNL-RL team with the leftover Pre-Academy girls and some of the better Red girls.

Domt lie to people…Pre academy 2 is RL…maybe 1-2 players from Red will make the RL but more than likely they will fill it out from players from the outside. No even all the pre academy 2 players will make the RL team and no pre academy 2 players will make ECNL team

Good thing about being on RL is watching your roster balloon to 20+ and ECNL staying at 18 or less. You then think “ oh they will call girls up when they are short” but it never happens. Then you are on an RL team that can’t dress all players every week so you have to sit out some random game.

RL players get out when you can!

They will usually call up players from the ECNL team a year younger before they call up an RL player.

Our last tryout is tonight. How quickly should we anticipate they will get offers to top 3 U10 teams?
Anonymous
Yes in keeping with the theory that ecnl considers itself totally separate from the rest of arlington
