Unfortunately hacks beat on the skilled players before they get to D1 levels. This is because when players are young being overly aggressive is a tactic to win. I hate watching games like this. |
It's interesting an I'm the one that said how development is on the planet a few posts back but I've seen almost zero emphasis on tactics at the two clubs my DC played for, one of which was Arlington. I'm not trying to win because of tactics or shortcuts but I do want my DC and their teammates to understand how to play the game. Maybe mine is too young yet to see what you are talking about. I have yet to see coaching development of my player and I'm a good $30k in club fees deep across all the different offerings. So all this development talk is bothersome.

Doesn't help that "development" often entails $500 in a white envelope provided to the coach. |
My daughter is on a U13 ECNL team this year (not dmv), and it's actually refreshing to see tactics. Development is still very suspect, but now that winning "matters" they're pulling out all the stops and probably way outperforming their talent level. That shouldn't be the only objective of course, but the winning is making everyone push harder individually with playoffs and top tier tournaments coming up. |

Doesn't help that "development" often entails $500 in a white envelope provided to the coach. This is maybe very naive, but is this really true? |
This is maybe very naive, but is this really true? It's not (unless it is in some crazy case). Now, there are other ways to assert influence |
This is maybe very naive, but is this really true? Happens all thr time every year around Christmas. As a thank you for working with my kid. |
Happens all thr time every year around Christmas. As a thank you for working with my kid. That's some BS but continue to feel that way - it's usually done by sponsorships/galas/dinners/ etc. I'd actually be shocked if envelopes were exchanged. |
This is maybe very naive, but is this really true? Using them or their affiliated/preferred outside training service is the white envelope. |
| I find it hard to believe an Arlington coach would allow that. Sure, the futstars thing on the boys side is a way to get a spot on ecnl but actually paying?! I don't believe it. |
| It is done subtly but it happens. But there is a quid pro quo with other benefits you can provide to coaches. Coaches know that they are at a club for a limited time so they are always trying to gas their side hustle which is frankly a bit more permanent for them. |
| RL girls made NL girls this time around. Sorry it wasn't your kid. |
Not from Arlington RL. |
Incorrect. |
