Why are so many of my friends not discussing politics (at least by text or email)? I’m in a few group friend chats and

Most people - normal people - don’t want to have politics injected into every subject they discuss, even if they tend to agree. But discussions of kid’s sports, recipes, or pets don’t all need to devolve into rants about how much you hate Trump. There’s just no need for this.

It’s …….. boring.

How many subjects in your daily life do you think are devoid of “politics”?

Are most of you being deliberately obtuse because you love the current administration? Or are you actually this stupid?

This is the fundamental character flaw in play. One-dimensional people have nothing to fall back on if they depend on a singular focus for self-validation and positive reinforcement.

This is word salad, Comrade.

Persuasive. Certain to win friends and influence people. Very astute approach. Bravo.

Bingo. I never, ever discuss politics with friends or even family. Which isn't to say I don't have opinions and strong feelings. I just prefer keeping them to myself as most polite people do.

Exactly. All of the good Germans value politeness above all!

Gosh, I can't imagine why normal people choose to keep their opinions to themselves.

There is no good reason for "discussing politics". You're just hoping for positive reinforcement when you know it may not be forthcoming. Great way to lose friends whose valuable qualities don't include sharing your politics.

+ a million
OP is one of those people who is just positive everyone thinks and feels as she does. The arrogance is pretty astounding.

Anyone who isn’t horrified by what is going on right now is a soulless monster. Please, do let us know if that’s you. Be proud of what you (don’t) stand for!

I bet I know exactly who you are. You're the FB acquaintance I put on mute weeks ago. It's clearly time to simply unfriend. Bye!

Or they just have more nuanced opinions. Like, asylum is abused, only ppl with legal status should be in the US, but they don’t support the cruelty, chaos and blatant disregard for due process.
But they know you’ll go rabid and yell maga at them

+1
"Nuance" isn't a word these absolutists understand. Which is why no one sane wants to engage with them.

Maybe, OP, you can respect people are capable of finding the news and/or do not want to have recorded conversations.

^^THIS. It's clear there are certain people - of the far-left variety - who will never grasp that others are also attuned to politics and can draw their own conclusions without having to be lectured to or told what to think. These people will just never get it and will always smugly think of themselves as the smartest people in the room. It's really too bad because they're a huge reason people are repulsed.

Ummm what?! Op asked why people aren't talking about what's going on in our country. No one said anything about articles being sent and as far as "recorded conversations" are you scared that you no longer have the freedom of speech-are you concerned that they are going after and trying to silence the press . If you are then OP made their point-this is alarming and the time to be coming together. We should all be talking about it before it's too late. Maybe you can respect that true Americans do not take kindly to an administration who is using the Hitler playbook to strip away freedoms and rights that many fought hard for=some paid the ultimate price with their lives protecting you freedom.

DP. Wow, take a seat. Obviously, the PP meant there is always a record of text and/or email conversations. Regardless, anyone using gross hyperbole like "the Hitler playbook" is not a serious person.

Volumes of boredom. You’re tedious, hectoring, and holier-than-thou. Most of all you’re incapable of grasping that you’re damaging your own cause.

In short, you are a stellar exemplar of all that’s wrong with the Democratic establishment that you purport to loathe.

I retract boring. In this context, you’re actually delightfully amusing. Encore?

Beat me to it! This person has been told by poster after poster why they don't enjoy talking politics and this was what they came up with in response.

Or, they're not about to be baited by your absurd goading. You don't have many friends, that much is clear.

They’re smarter than you and you know it, which is why you want them shot in the face.

You call that a “nuanced opinion”? I call that a Democrat. Plenty of democrats believe exactly what you wrote. I have no problems with people who believe as you do, and vote democrat. I’ve got a lot of problems with people who purport to believe as you do, but vote republican.

PP you replied to. Many of my democratic friends can’t stand any criticism of the immigration system or certain types of immigrants. I am an immigrant myself so I’m not as naive and I see a lot of my compatriots abusing the system in many ways. But god forbid you say something, like maybe most or at least some of the Somalian fraud was exactly that?
