Why are so many of my friends not discussing politics (at least by text or email)? I’m in a few group friend chats and

My friend group isn't talking about it. Occasionally someone will make a vague reference to what's going on, and we all nod in dejected agreement, but what is there to talk about? We voted, we're doing what we can now, but life continues. I'm still expected at work every day. The kids still have to go to school. Life marches on.

Also, it's depressing as heck. Sometimes we need to focus on something else for a minute.

Maybe because your friends have fruitful lives and don’t obsess with politics like you do. O

I talk about it plenty in person with people but as a naturalized, "brown" immigrant, you won't catch me saying all the crap I say about Trump and his cronies on devices associated with me.

Even for the people who are "safe," who is going to be honest when anything they say can be screenshot and manipulated?

I'm so glad someone asked this....I thought it was just me that felt stumped by this. All I keep thinking is about the poem-Then they came for me.

This is beyond politics you uneducated fool.

Bc some people have the luxury not to have to think about what is going on every day. They can drive without a passport in hand.

I’m in OP’s position too and I think it’s because people are terrified and understand appealing to Schumer and co won’t save our kids from the fall of this empire.

This is my biggest fear. I don't want my kids growing up in this. I have a friend who keeps saying things like well it happened before in history and the kids will be ok. I can't watch people bury their heads in the sand anymore. This is serious-everything happening is un-American and it's happening extremely fast and we should know better. Anyone who paid any attention in history classes should be horrified.

“The forms are all there, all untouched, all reassuring, the houses, the shops, the jobs, the mealtimes, the visits, the concerts, the cinema, the holidays. But the spirit, which you never noticed because you made the lifelong mistake of identifying it with the forms, is changed. Now you live in a world of hate and fear, and the people who hate and fear do not even know it themselves; when everyone is transformed, no one is transformed. Now you live in a system which rules without responsibility even to God. The system itself could not have intended this in the beginning, but in order to sustain itself it was compelled to go all the way.”

Many people are uninterested in 1) deliberately provoking conflict with friends through by raising contentious topics, 2) discussing topics of no actual import to them, 3) joining a group circle-jerk to reinforce existing biases and prejudices.

You’re obsessed and it’s all you can think about. It’s not healthy. Most people can watch the news and be interested in it, but not have it overwhelm their lives.

They secretly vote R and know you are insane.

What exactly do you expect people to do. We speak out when appropriate, vote in every election, teach the next generation right from wrong and protest. Explain to me what else will make a blessed bit of difference? I have bills, a kid in college, health issues and activities - am I supposed to give them up and post on social media or text my friends my outrage every chance I get? You sound completely insufferable.
