MCPS, 3.8 UW, 4.4 W, test optional, average activities, ok rigor (7 APs, AP Stats instead of Calc)

The kids at our private school who didn't get into UMD are at places like university of Richmond, case western, or university of Rochester. Most didn't pivot to another big state school. They did really well in admissions to smaller schools that have true holistic admission, not just a hard GPA threshold.

I’m surprised this profile was rejected by Wisconsin.

Based on my son’s interactions with his friends, UMD is not as competitive this year in his school. I think the admission bar is closer to 2 years ago than last year.

Did they school say what the reason is? Was it Churchill? Did students at Churchill not apply after seeing last year's results?

No, it’s a non-elite private school in the DMV. X students were admitted to UMD two years ago, but only 1/2X were admitted last year (out of ~same number of graduating seniors each).

I know a group of kids that didn't get into UMD. They went to different colleges for freshman year (university of Delaware, Penn State, JMU etc. and then sophomore year transferred to UMD. all got in as sophomores

Them applying as sophomores and getting in means they are taking slots away from those applying that year as first year Freshman?
