| If your kid wasn't accepted to UMD (in past 3 years), what college/university were they accepted to and to what program at that college? |
Since UMD became more competitive UMBC seems to be the popular backup. |
| Towson |
| At JMU. Is actually very happy but as MD residents, UMD would obviously have been preferable for financial reasons. But, JMU does offer a lot of the same experience, if not more since DC's more "away." It wasn't upsetting because UMD was a long shot for this particular DC. Tried to get them to consider Towson, but they just did not like it as much as JMU. |

For my kid's friends/classmates from HS class of 2025 from MCPS:
In Maryland...UMBC, Towson, Montgomery College eventually to UMD Out of state...Pitt, Wisconsin, Ohio State, other big flagships (some with merit to bring COA closer to UMD) |
JMU is a really good school and the campus is beautiful. |
+1 |
| An increasingly popular (and rising) university is George Mason University, plus its close geographically. |
|
Some people are doing a year at Prince George's Community College and transferring over. If you maintain a high GPA you are almost guaranteed admission.
|
Wisconsin-Madison actually is considered a higher college than UMD. |
| Delaware |
| It wasn’t in the last three years that my nephew was not accepted to college Park so he went to UMBC for accounting -> pwc - > Dartmouth MBA -> Amazon |
Or reapply for the Spring and do 1 semester at cc. |
I saw a suggestion somewhere saying that do not reapply a college that rejected you. It is not specifically for UMD. More a general suggestion. |
That’s silly … I wouldn’t apply for the fall without some CC but most CC kids reapply and Spring is a different game. |
