Most people would disagree with your assessment. There's a reason why it is highly sought after. |
I don't think there's a human alive who is saying or thinks UMD is in the same league as an ivy, lol! Many sought after schools are not. |
What is the reason then? DP |
Because it's a great school (more than decent) with great programs in business, engineering, CS, criminology, and more; plus its location gives easy access to internships and major top employers. And no, it does not have a low price tag at over $60K per year. To be fair, it's the same OOS cost as Penn State and most other big out of state flagships. Do your research. |
You missed my point. I was saying UMD designed their application like an Ivy, which is a little cringey! |
Did you have the same issue with the other supplemental essays or questions that other non-Ivy schools asked for? How about Virginia Tech's 4 Ut Prosim essays? How about Purdue or Univ. of Wisconsin? At least Maryland's aren't actual essays; they're literally 2-3 sentence answers. It's cringey that you think that's cringey. |
Most parents whose seemingly high-stats kids got rejected by UMD only complain about their admissions criteria, instead of the quality of the school. But those parents whose kids are going to UMD like to exaggerate its quality. |
It’s a throw your hat in the ring university, the only sought after part is the Honors College for instate. It has a lower yield than its neighbors in VA and NJ for both instate and OOS. It’s a fine school but lets keep things in perspective. |
In past cycles high stats kids have gotten in. |
| Penn state or uvm. |
And yet, the number of applicants continues to rise each year. I guess students aren't as put off by their Ivy-like application as you are. |
Interesting take. The yield rate for UMD and its comparable schools in VA (Virginia Tech) and NJ (Rutgers) are very similar. It's a great school and I'm sorry you're bugged by that. |
| He got into Oberlin, but not Maryland. |
Wisconsin is not that much higher. Even so, if a kid doesn't get into UMD but does get into Wisconsin and attend, the earlier poster is still correctly answering OP’s question. |
I thought GW hasn't released decisions yet except for ED1? |
