Institutions are still permitted, under SFFA, to employ certain proxies for skin color in making admissions decisions, without running afoul of the CRA ‘64.

I am a new poster here and I don’t have a personal stake in this discussion. I am NOT saying UVA gave a preference to applicants from Title I schools (only the admissions department and possibly DOJ investigators know if UVA did or did not).

However, UVA would be within the letter and the spirit of SFFA to give a preference for Title I as a legitimate proxy.

Read the S.Ct’s decision in SFFA.

I am the PP, and yes - thanks for the factual clarification: those 3 FCPS high schools are NOT Title 1.

Further, FCPS indicates there is only one Title 1 HS in the system:

- but they refuse to name it specifically.

No idea if any Bryant students were admitted ED. Does anyone know?

A school that is 49% FARMs, like WestPo, is going to get their top kids into UVA without submitting test scores. A student with inflated GPA and a 1300 can apply TO and get in. This is not happening at Langley. This is the difference.

I'm the West Springfield poster and I'm sorry I called attention to it! Didn't mean for it to turn into a Title I indictment.

Congrats to the accepted students (and no, my child didn't apply as they wanted a school very different UVA, but I can appreciate the excitement around the school)!

Our NOVA private got only 1. We were stunned at the deferrals. All great candidates, all in state.

DD's Catholic high school only had 1 get in, at least as far as the kids who have updated Scoir so far -- I'm sure there are more-- but when you look at the stats, it becomes obvious that the others were total reaches and they had to have known that it was a very long shot (and if they didn't, the counselors need to do their jobs better). The one application who had the stats, ~4.4/1500, got in as expected. Same exact story as last year.

correction - West Po is 51% Free/reduce lunch. There are a lot of AP options for the GPA grade boost and also has a strong pool of URMs which UVA is looking for (according to the CDS). I guarantee the EA round will see a lot more admits from the school as well.

Agreed. Not bashing on West Potomac. It is just something parents need to realize as they are choosing where to live. Living in Waynewood and sending your kid to West Potomac gives them a far better chance at UVA admissions than living in McLean and attending Langley. In other words, for a strong student, UVA is an easier admit out of a school at the bottom of FCPS high school ratings.

Similar situation at Herndon. Families in North Reston with kids attending Herndon High, gives them a better chance at UVA.

Marginally, maybe. My kid is at a somewhat “small pond” high school not in NOVA, but there is still a lot of competition among the top kids, and the raw numbers of acceptances are far fewer.

Most likely. A student at Langley, etc. will be able to be a full pay student at top 20 private schools. In less wealthy districts, the parents might be government workers that make too much for aid but not enough to pay $85,000 a year for 3 kids. These families (donut hole) are way more likely to accept UVA.
