Elon offered $1 million for artists to paint her mural. Which building on U St will offer the side of their building?

Does the victim being a pretty blonde girl obligate the media to report on it instead of the other murders that happen?

I think we all know the answer to that, PP. This particular incident was brutal and random and shocking to see on video. But I doubt it would have gotten the same amount of attention if the victim looked different, say if it was another black man around the same age and build as the murderer.

All the outrage about not covering every single murder in the US.

Can you name the people murdered in DC since the National guard arrived? How many? Was it covered by national news? Why didn’t the National guard stop it or even show up to the crime scene?

Not OP but if National Guard was on that train I guarantee this would never have happened.

That seems unlikely. It happened pretty fast. Even if there was someone in the same train car it is unlikely they could have stopped it in time.

I disagree. Have seen security personnel and policemen take down (pull to the ground) in seconds men who are acting strangely and uncooperatively around Atlanta's downtown and GA Tech areas.

It would have taken more than a few seconds to simply get to the man, even if they were in the same car. And they probably wouldn't have been.

There are situations where trained police could help, but this wasn't one of them. There aren't a lot of situations where untrained national guard can help.

I still disagree. His agitated movements and demeanor indicated he wasn't okay mentally.and a trained eye would have noticed and a security person could have moved closer to him. On a daily basis, our church feeds hundreds of homeless men who wouldn't hurt anyone. Some individuals just stand out.

You don't seem to spend a lot of time on public transit.

Of course it wouldn't have, which makes all the strident posters look like huge hypocrites, to put it nicely.

People don’t help because they don’t want to be the next victim. In Portland a madman was harassing a couple of Muslim girls on a train during rush hour and three men stepped in to help. Only one of them lived to tell about, and he was nearly a third victim. All had their throats slashed. To add insult to injury, homeless people stole one of the dead men’s wedding ring off his hand and his backpack. It’s gobsmacking that could even happen, but it did. And violence continues on transit in Portland. They weren’t the last to die.

No celebrity outrage.
No kneeling politicians.
No gold casket.
No statues in her honor.

Only silence.

You could not possibly guarantee that.

But is your plan now to deploy the military to public transportation?

If cities won't do more on their own, then yes.

It's not a sustainable plan, OP. I would love it if there were guards on each car of every train on every subway system in America but it is simply not feasible. Do you remember when the feds put federal Air Marshalls on US flights after 911 to deter or respond to potential hijackings? Apparently they still exist but are only on 5-6% of flights. I would hope that would be a deterrent to potential hijackers, but it's not clear that something similar would work in US subway systems. Maybe metal detectors at metro/subway stations (to detect guns and knives) would be a better idea.

It’s easy to watch the video, which you know is of a stabbing, and be confused about why people didn’t spring into whatever action you think was appropriate. Especially if you’re already arriving at the story on your authoritarian crusade parade.

For the people in the moment, I think it was probably a LOT more confusing and I don’t think they acted with indifference. They were normal people in a totally unexpected, very weird situation and I doubt anyone on the train knew what had happened right away.

It wasn’t just not help, a black young man at the end of the longer video pulls out his phone to record her dying.

People are more angry about the lady at the Phillies game. It’s disgusting.
