The crime happened on August 22. Please show us when the first liberal media reported it? 2-3 weeks later?

There is no history I have seen of anything but misuse of 911 since he was released in 2020.

He was very clearly mentally ill, but we do not keep people in jail for being mentally ill.

Yes, we have all failed as a society by not prioritizing the homeless and mentally ill. But neither is a crime...

If his mental condition makes it difficult for him to control his violent impulses, that’s a powerful argument for his incarceration.

The guy was unable to function in society, and his record gave us a clue. We used to lock up people like this for the duration of their lives; it was a simplistic, and yes, cruel solution, but life-saving. They are a danger to others. It's like letting a rabid pit bull run around your neighborhood and insisting it has a right to run free, knowing full well it will eventually take down an adult getting out of their car with a bag of groceries or child waiting for a school bus. It needs to be removed for the good of the community.

It could have been any one of us sitting on the Metro, waiting for a cab, walking home from the supermarket. Doesn't matter what the criminal's upbringing had been, race, financial status, education. Dangerous individuals like this must be removed.

PP here. Correct. And somehow, this man’s mental illness is being used to minimize his culpability and dangerousness.

How about Treasury Secretary Bessent? He threatenes to punch someone in their face. Sounds pretty dangerous!

Yeah, that’s the same thing as fatally stabbing a woman in the neck.

He's in jail and charged with murder. How is that minimizing his culpability and dangerousness?

They're all mentally ill, and still very, very dangerous. Same thing happened in DC 10 years ago.

Ten years later, things are still broken. The current system is not working. Removing them from society is the only way save lives.

Oh come on. If a criminally mentally ill and/or (probably and, let’s be real) hopped up on drugs white guy - of which there are plenty - stabbed and killed a black woman, maybe a nice immigrant from Congo, I don’t know - it would be national news immediately. Her funeral would be televised. The usual people would speak at it. They would trend a hash tag. There would be think pieces and calls for racial reckoning.

Black women are murdered, kidnapped, and more throughout this country every day. I assure you, it generally doesn’t make national news.

No it doesn't. And that's a tragedy. But it's black men killing black women. And no media outlet wants to touch that. So those women disappear in our current media universe.

Well, the politicians in NC better hop to it. Because this case has galvanized a gazillion people. This extremely violent man should not have been out in public where he can knife young women on public transportation because he felt like it. This man's freedom to commit this horrible crime is definitely going to be an election issue.

I'll say this about Trump. His political instincts are solid. There is massive bipartisan disgust with prosecutors and judges for inflicting these people on communities. Even San Francisco went through the trouble of recalling the progressive District Attorney. People are done with progressives. Even in San Francisco.

Men like this - with a long history of violent crime - belong in prison.

A face punch can be fatal. Why are you minimizing violent criminals?

You are not in the least bit funny or clever as you attempt to make light of this young woman's murder. I bet you haven't watched the full video of how this poor girl died. Horrific.

That is the problem, these cases need to be national news, when convicted he should never leave an institution again.

Judge who released him should be removed from the bench.

DP. When you say "these cases," what exactly do you mean? All cases begin as local cases and only achieve national status if there's something unusual or newsworthy about them.

Cases where the perpetrator(s) have substantial criminal records but are routinely released back into the public to cause more harm.

Also, the decision of whether or not to institutionalize someone usually depends on state law. You're focused on the last judge he encountered but apparently he was released at least 12-14 times by judges over his criminal history, often without bail or with low/no conditions, due to North Carolina's reformed bail policies emphasizing pretrial release for non-violent or low-level offenses, judicial discretion, and a push to reduce jail overcrowding. These decisions prioritized rehabilitation and rights over detention, even for repeat offenders with mental health flags

Precisely why wide spread attention is necessary. To put public pressure on legislators to enact legislation designed to protect the public from people who have demonstrated that they cannot peacefully exist in society.

According to my research, North Carolina law restricts judges' rulings on pretrial release and mental health commitments. G.S. 15A-534 mandates release conditions unless specific risks (e.g., serious felonies, danger) justify detention, with judicial discretion guided by evidence and local bail policies. G.S. 122C limits involuntary commitment to cases with clear evidence of mental illness and imminent danger, requiring court hearings."
Compare NC and SC laws.

Once appropriate legislation is in place people need to elect prosecutors and judges who will do the job and protect the public through vigorous prosecution and appropriate sentencing.

NC is a red state (went for Trump three times). Its legislature is controlled by Republicans (the GOP holds a 30-20 majority in the Senate and a 71-49 majority in the House as of the 2025-2026 session.) Why don't you contact the NC state legislature and advocate for changes to existing laws that will make it easier to institutionalize seriously mentally ill individuals with a history of criminal activity? That's what needs to change to prevent similar incidences.

Red state or blue state it should not matter, not everyone is capable of existing peacefully in society. Those who are not should be institutionalized and treated homely. It is simple common sense, not a conservative or liberal political principle.

Remember when a man threw a child from the third floor of mall of America ? He was a repeat offender, banned from the mall at the time and he gets out of prison in 2031. The kid only survived by a miracle
