The public is not UMD. And I am comparing paying tuition at a public u vs tuition at a private u. Not k-12. And the tuition includes fees. The only payment I wasn't including was living/food because the situations are different.

That said, I can totally see the value in going to private k-12 whether the student goes to public or private u. Not sure why that matters.

OP, there is ZERO reason why you can't just name the school. Your kid isn't the only one there. You're at no risk of outing yourself. The refusal of posters on this board to provide even the most basic information out of fear of being outed makes posts like yours worthless.

Not OP but why do you care? You can look up tuition and fees for any of these schools in five seconds on Google.

The post was about how nice it is to pay public university tuition after paying so many years of private school. Which public university that is specifically for OP is irrelevant. You can find all of their price tags with almost no effort, it’s not like it’s unverifiable.

The post specifically said "top" public. It's helpful to know what's considered "top." OP's definition may differ from reality.

So, you admittedly wanted to know so you could possibly attack what he considers a "top" public? And you wonder why they don't want to disclose it? OK

OP here - I am a she!

I didn't name the schools because the 2 schools together could be identifiable. I included top in my op to signal that is is not a directional school (or whatever term DCUM uses to disparage publics) and the educational opportunities there are world class.

All that said, yes, my post was about the general feeling of paying so little after paying so much. It really hit home. Who is to say what the outcomes will be but both kids are very pleased with their situations.

You don’t need to name both. Just name the public.

Not OP. Tuition and fees for the entire upcoming school year at the top 10 publics (based on USNWR, there is a tie for ninth among the last four which is why there are more than 10). Numbers directly from the schools’ websites:

UCLA: $15,700
UCB: $17,478
Michigan: $18,346
UVA: $20,046
UNC: $9,096
UCSD: $20,505
UF: $6,380
UTA: $10,858-$13,576
Georgia Tech: $12,008
UC Davis: $17,351
UC Irvine: $19,268
Illinois: $18,046-$23,426

So yes, it is entirely possible to attend a top public with tuition and fees of $12k for the year. Stop being weird.

At no more than two or three of these. And I’ll bet the OP is talking about those two or three. Which means not “top.”

OP could just end the suspense by identifying the school. What’s the problem with that?

We just finished paying for our youngest who was at a VA state school with merit. This after our oldest went to a T10 private full pay. You're not kidding about the difference! And agree if it had been the reverse order, I"m not sure I could have handled it. lol

All great deals, but some of those are absolute steals.

I'm sorry your child "only" got into a state school after you threw hundreds of thousands of dollars away at his private education.

I just paid the tuition for my college freshman's fall semester at his (top) public. It was just shy of 6k. This feels like pennies after what I have been paying for my oldest's tuition per semester at their private (just shy of 35k.) It is shocking now that it is real. And I am glad the situation was not reversed.

Yeah but if they are living on campus in a high cost f living area tack on another 30 K. After the housing, add in books, spending money etc.

Just shy of 6 times 2 is just shy of 12. There's no school on this list that's just shy of 12. GT is just over 12, and that's the closest. But it ain't "just shy" of 12.

Some of you are such massive trolls, obsessing over whether OP’s school is truly “top” or not rather than the actual point, which is that it’s a relief paying public school tuition after years of paying private K-12.

UTA’s range includes just shy of 12. And GT’s listed rate at $12,008 could easily be just shy of 12 for some students for various reasons.

0 for 2, keep on swinging.
