Paying public tuition after private tution

I just paid the tuition for my college freshman's fall semester at his (top) public. It was just shy of 6k. This feels like pennies after what I have been paying for my oldest's tuition per semester at their private (just shy of 35k.) It is shocking now that it is real. And I am glad the situation was not reversed.

Good lord. I’m paying $90k/year for an Ivy. $35k for a private? That’s the price of UVA.

I'm so jealous of the people that live in Georgia.

Quite frankly, what is the point of spending all that money on private just to join the rest of the plebe in a public….

UMD’s tuition and fees for this year are $12,290 so, yes, PP was accurate that it’s about $6k per semester.

And Florida. I believe it’s free tuition for in state residents.

We’re in the same boat as op. actually cashed in 10k per year from each 529 because we realized college was going to be cheaper.

UMD instate tuition is 12,008 per year which comes out to pretty darn close to 6K a semester.

Are you thinking cost of attendance? OP was clear she was just talking tuition.

Can we stop referring to UMD as a “top” public? When 16 other public colleges are ring tire, it’s not “top“. It’s fine, sure, you can even say strong if you want. But “top?” Nope

Lol ranked hire not ring tire. I typed too fast out of my frustration with the overuse of the word “top”

UMD is top 20 in my kid’s major. Given that there are thousands of colleges, I am good with the word “top” for
UMD.

the PP must have meant 35k for tuition per semester. Tulane Tuition not counting Room and board is 69k for the year.
Ivy tuition-only per semester is lower than 35. We pay 89k a year total for tuition (60k) room board and fees, and are happy to do so, though we paid 32k for private k-12 so the delta seemed reasonable to us considering savings and salary. Ivies and similar are well worth it.
