I know it's wrong of me to judge

She's too stupid to use birth control or to teach her children to use it. I don't think she's a success as a mom or a career woman. She's certainly not articulate or knowledgeable.

She appeals to the absolute lowest common denominator in any discussion.

First, I think Sarah Palin is a blithering idiot, surpassed in her idiocy only those Alaskans who voted for her for Governor.

That said, it is asinine to argue that she is not successful. She leveraged being the mayor of a small town into being elected governor of a freakin' state, and the governorship into a VP candidacy. She is noe one of the most highly sought after (and highly paid) public speakers in the country today, wields an enormous amount of political clout, and has an outside chance to someday become the President of the United States.

Is she qualified for any of these things? No (except mayor, perhaps). Will I be horrified if she become President? That doesn't begin to describe it. Is she successful? By any rational definition of the term, of course she is.

If you failed to use birth control, that would be stupid - because you believe in using birth control. For someone who is philosophically opposed to it, it doesn't make sense for you to apply your rationale to their paradigm.

As to whether or not she's a success, that really depends upon your measuring stick. She's wealthy, commands enormous speaking fees, has a great deal of political influence, and is good looking to boot. She's not my cup of tea, but she's got a LOT than, say, you do. (After all, if you were as busy as she is you wouldn't spend so much time posting to an anonymous forum.)

The first P here went too far. SP certainly is not a success on any substantive basis. But I certainly do not want to judge her success as a mother, other than to say that, for someone who is probably against premarital sex and certainly against out-of-wedlock children, I find it amusing that one of her children did both. But the "Christian" right has a long history of producing hypocrits. As for the second P, she is not a success in any meaningful way. Yes, she is now wealthy and commands enormous speaking fees, but so does Paris Hilton. What I find amusing about her is that she represents exactly what the right has long criticized modern culture. Self-absorbed, quitter, no substance, etc.

As far as her child getting pregnant before getting married, I don't think anyone argues that is ideal, but I have a feeling you don't understand the concept of "love the sinner, hate the sin." There are a LOT of people who find a way to make peace with babies conceived outside of wedlock. I have a feeling this actually bothers you more than it bothers her. Regardless, I admire her for walking the walk. The vast majority (well above 75% by an NYT study) of people who know they're going to have a Downs baby choose to abort. She knew and didn't. Whatever else you think of her, that took more guts than you probably have.

(I'm an atheist myself and make no claims to the morally higher grounds.)

As for success: wealthy and commanding enormous speaking fees may be relative, but they're still objective measures of success (or failure). "Self-absorbed, quitter, no substance" are completely subjective. Sorry, you don't like her but this hardly proves your case. By many current American standards she is a success. And a pretty one, at that.

She's not my kind of candidate, but I have to laugh at all of you scorning her - she's a hell of a lot more successful than you will ever be. Maybe THAT'S why you hate her so much.

Successful at what??? Making money in today's celebrity culture. By your definition, DC Desperates, Paris Hilton and the Mob are succesful.

Paris Hilton is a former porn star turned junkie. And she had all the money in the world and did not need to do that to feed her hungry children!

This is the senario...15 solders with ak47.s on one side, 15 soldiers with ak 47's on the other. Its going to be a battle to the death...there is no way out. One side will be commanded by Hillary Clinton, the other by Sarah Palin. If you want to live....you better hope you are in Palins brigade!!!! Case Closed.

People instinctively know this...thats why Palin effects us at our deepest levels. Also, last I checked Alaska has a balanced budget...That successful! Palin inspires millions of people...Thats successful! Palin makes a lt of money....Thats successful. Palin has a loving and healthy-looking family (sure beats the hell out of the Clintons!). Palin has the good sense to look (and probably smell) sexy.....(are you listening Hillary). Did I mention she also runs marathons? It would kind of be funny for her to take Hillary out for a 5k!!!!

OMG blow out the candles on the secret Palin shrine you have in your closet, and stop bidding on her used underwear on ebay. Ew.

Thats FUNNY! I'll bet her undies go for a lot more than Hillary's. If I remember correctly...Hillary tried to write off her used undies on her taxes... Palins would bring a nice chunk of change!!!!

Yes, yes, we get it. If Palin and Clinton had to make macrame belts, Palin's would affect us at our deepest levels. If Palin and Clinton had to take out the trash, Palin's would get to the curb faster. Hilary would put the recycling in with the regular trash.

BTW it was Palin that had the $150,000 wardrobe problem, and it was the McCain campaign that said they would donate it to charity. I'm sure they took the deduction.

This P is not someone I would wish to associate with. His or her definition of success is not one I would want my children to adopt. Making money is obviously okay, but one must do something. Palin was a governor for barely 2 years and did not do much. Alaska does have a balanced budget but it has nothing to do with Palin. Alaska receives tremendous royalties from the oil fields, so much that Alaskans receive a check every year from the govt. Alaskans are, in fact, on oil welfare. The real issue with Palin is that she has not used her new found fame or celebrity to do anything useful other than make money from herself. She gets paid for her political speeches and is now being paid by FOX.

I do not believe Paris was ever a porn star, though a video of her doing the dirty deed with some boyfriend did circulate around the web several years ago. She no doubt has junkie tendencies, though I am not sure she has been sent away for drug abuse unlike some other celebrities. But Paris does get paid for showing up at nightclubs, etc. She uses her celebrity to make money. But, like Palin, she has not done anything. At least the real actors in Hollywood act in movies and seem to have profession, even though they may be screwed and even though they may be famous. Palin is famous but has nothing to back it up.

Hilton is not a former porn star. God, at least get your facts straight before you rant. She had a boyfriend who taped her while they were having sex and then put tape it on the internet. I'd bet that 95 percent of adults under the age of 40 have taken drugs and many, even on DCUM, are still doing so. One thread had someone who claimed to be managing partner of his frim and he smokes pot every day.

Sarah palin is superior to Hillary in the following ways. Superior command skills, managing government, physical fitness, superior body image, connecting to people with warmth, achieving professionally without her husband leading the way, raising a loving and healthy looking family, appearing to have a sex-life, having exponentially more expensive used undies on eBay,,all of those items require intelligence, common sense, awareness of self, hard work , and moxie.
