I know it's wrong of me to judge

I think class prejudices are a big reason people hate her so much, because she is kind of white trashy. I may not agree with her positions but she is no dumber than Biden, she just gets vilified because she is a woman. It is the same thing conservatives did to Hillary. You should be ashamed if yourselves for being such snobby judgmental bitches.

It's not that SP has low class or different views that I find disturbing. First, she does not speak proper English given that she is a native English speaker (we think). If you don't speak any language grammatically correct, you come across as dumb.

Interesting statement on speaking proper English. Do you consider this statement to be true for all native English speakers?

I think people would not blither with their run-on, non-sensical sentences like hers and have the confidence to believe that they know what they're talking about.

I totally agree! Why can't people be a little more open minided? Is it so hard? Just because someone has a different political opinion than you does not always mean they are stupid and racist.

So far all the SP supporters on this board are confirming my thoughts about SP supporters. Sad.

Right, because anyone who thinks differently from you must be an idiot.

What success?? First, I do not think SP is dumb, but I do think she has no understanding of many many issues. Being a Mayor of a small town does not mean that you have learned anything about a broad range of national issues or about governing and managing any type of organization. She has conveyed no impression that she has seriously thought through any of the national issues facing us. The charge against Bush II was that he reacted rather than thought through things. Obama is obviously the opposite. Second, SP has not done anything. What are her accomplishments?? Bush II was able to tout his time as Governor and listed several accomplishments, including his then history of working with Democrats. Moreover, Bush II was involved in business before that, though not necessarily successful at it. He also went to 2 of the Nation's top schools. Attending top schools does not mean everything but it certainly should provide some credibility about one's basic intelligence and level of knowledge. As for SP, what has she accomplished. Nothing. She was elected Governor, but did not do anything. Moreover, rather than continue her term as Governor and perhaps even run for re-election, she quit to make money on the celebrity tour. Third, I think the most serious criticism is that she represents exactly what is wrong with modern culture where we mistake celebrity with achievement. There is a fundamental difference between Tiger Woods and Paris Hilton. Both have drawn extensive and unfavorable media coverage. But Tiger is at least one of the best golfers that ever lived. Finally, we need leaders who are smart, have thought about the real issues facing us, have shown a willingness to step up to the plate, make hard choices, and follow through on them. SP has shown none of these characteristics. So, the quoted passage simply confuses achievement from celebrity.

The pot, it appears, is calling the kettle black. "Dumb" means the inability to speak and we all know that Sarah Palin has no trouble speaking. Perhaps you mean, to you, she comes across as ignorant as it would seem that you, too, suffer from the same problem with the English language.

NP here. Dumb has more than one meaning. Isn't this common knowledge?

I judge people who allow themselves to get emotional about her either way - love or hate. Those are just two sides of the same coin.

Sarah Palin is not on my radar screen and I don't care enough to put her there. If you hate her so much, I feel sorry for you for ceding so much of your mood to another person's whims.

I'm the OP. What makes you think I'm not open minded? I'm not a democrat. I would have openly voted republican last election had McCain not chosen Palin as his VP.

This had little to do with political beliefs, but rather someone who calls herself a politician and walks around in clown shoes. And no, I didn't start this in Political Discussion but rather as a joke in Off Topic. (Thanks admins for taking me so seriously)

And this is what voters will remember in November.

To those posters who think SP is successful - on what basis? She failed as VP candidate, didn't finish her term as governor, had mixed results during her gubernatorial tenure.

She's too stupid to use birth control or to teach her children to use it. I don't think she's a success as a mom or a career woman. She's certainly not articulate or knowledgeable.

She appeals to the absolute lowest common denominator in any discussion.

Since English is a living language, we don't alway use the words in the original connotation, i.e. deaf & dumb (who says that anymore?), moron (was originally a psychological term which came into the daily English language).

I usually don't look up words that are used daily in the dictionary to pick apart a blog post. But thanks for pointing out your weak argument for SP.

If you failed to use birth control, that would be stupid - because you believe in using birth control. For someone who is philosophically opposed to it, it doesn't make sense for you to apply your rationale to their paradigm.

As to whether or not she's a success, that really depends upon your measuring stick. She's wealthy, commands enormous speaking fees, has a great deal of political influence, and is good looking to boot. She's not my cup of tea, but she's got a LOT than, say, you do. (After all, if you were as busy as she is you wouldn't spend so much time posting to an anonymous forum.)

The first P here went too far. SP certainly is not a success on any substantive basis. But I certainly do not want to judge her success as a mother, other than to say that, for someone who is probably against premarital sex and certainly against out-of-wedlock children, I find it amusing that one of her children did both. But the "Christian" right has a long history of producing hypocrits. As for the second P, she is not a success in any meaningful way. Yes, she is now wealthy and commands enormous speaking fees, but so does Paris Hilton. What I find amusing about her is that she represents exactly what the right has long criticized modern culture. Self-absorbed, quitter, no substance, etc.
