Metropolitan DC Local Politics
To say this when the primary was cleared for Spanberger is ridiculous. |
I agree. I feel pushed away by the Democratic Party, too. I have very progressive relatives (close-in MD). I don’t even have to disagree; if I simply ask the wrong question, dinner becomes combative and uncomfortable. It is absolutely doing damage to the Democrats. If shutting down conversation is the go-to method of operating, I’m not interested in participating. |
Example of a “wrong question”? |
Please explain these “traditional values” that you don’t think are compatible with the DNC platform. |
Sure. Recently, during a conversation about restorative justice in schools: “But does this have the potential to make the victim feel uncomfortable?” |
I would vote for Larry Hogan a hundred times. It’s unfortunate that someone like him will never make it out of a presidential primary because if he did he would be hard to beat. But because of the extreme wings of both parties we are left to choose between morons. |
Clearly you said more than that to turn a conversation combative or get called MAGA. |
Nope. That was it. That was all I said to cause a combative table. You fail to realize how openly aggressive some of your progressive counterparts are. And until the Democratic Party is able to acknowledge this, you’ll continue to push away moderate voters. I also work in a very conservative organization. I suspect I disagree with all of my coworkers’ opinions. Yet I find them easier to talk to about politics than my progressive relatives. |
DP and yeah. I bet there is context here you are conveniently leaving out. But whatever. Let b1tchy people "force" you to vote for the real extremists because you're a big baby. |
I can give you the context. Generally, restorative practice was being explained to an older family member. I asked that question, and then I was told the victim has a responsibility to help the offender learn. I reiterated that may revictimize the victim and then the “lecture” began. But you proved my point again. You insulted me after making your own convenient assumptions. It’s the default, I’ve noticed, when talking to some progressives. |
If you get a student loan, you agree to the terms, and you pay it off. |
+1 Restorative Justice is awful and doesn't work in most instances. Getting rid of SROs, and then having to bring them back as "Community Engagement Officers" is just a way to save face because progressives know that getting rid of SROs was a bad call. Raising taxes in a time when people are losing jobs rather than tightening the belt is a disaster for this area. Caring more about illegal immigrants over Americans who are struggling and homeless is a slap in the face for Americans. That said, I'm supportive of putting a cap on executive pay in comparison to the average wage worker. Or, raise taxes for the very highest of income earners. The income gap is going to fracture our society. This is why so many billionaires wrote an open letter to world leaders to tax them more. They know such a gap is not sustainable. The French learned that lesson the hard way. I also support a living wage. I don't care about lgbtq books in the classrooms. But, I don't support trans using the bathroom of their desired gender. If you want to attract high paying jobs here you need to make the environment a bit more business friendly. IMO, progressives focus on the wrong things. Their hearts are in the right place, but the reality is that we don't live in Kumbaya land, and their policies won't work, just as pure capitalism doesn't work. |
New poster. 100%. Restorative Justice is not evidenced based in the least. It certainly does not improve school safety. But to bring this up makes you racist. |
Soviet. |
Someone had the nerve to disagree with me so I am voting for Nazis! People like this are just far right maga adjacent, anyway. The democrats need to build a party without these nutty milquetoast moderates. |
