MBLI just posted a job listing for a School Secretary today. Definitely seems like they plan on opening this fall

They have a Principal and Asst Principal. Great! But the question is where are they in terms of staffing, building construction and setup, delivery of materials and curriculum, etc. Not to mention post planning for this year, because isn’t this building only temporary.

The Germantown location across from MC is their planned long term location, which is why they are renovating it. The earlier reporting was speculating that if it isn’t ready, they’d need a temporary location, but there’s been no indication that is actually happening.

What do you care? You never care when MCPS is not staffed, has no materials, and puts children in classrooms with no windows and no ventilation.

Folks always care about that, not sure where you've been. Not to mention that for new MCPS schools under construction, the principals are usually chosen before the Summer and they are engaging with the community, and the community is getting Facilities update on the progress.

Where is the MBLI update.

And yet students are in horrible conditions year after year after year.

Schools constantly open before construction is completed.

Where have you been?

Ok what’s your point? There should still be an update in where MBLi is in the process as we’re almost at Aug.

The MBLI website says they are going to operate out of the old elementary school in Bethesda to start the year and then transition to the facility in Germantown over Winter break.

I'm curious as to who is actually doing the hiring for this school. This morning I got an email from MCPS saying I was offered a job at MBLI. 30 minutes later I recieved an email from someone at the Central Office of MBLI saying I did not in fact get the job. Seems weird and disorganized.

My understanding is that the MBLI founders have the hiring decision power, but offers are still through MCPS. For Internal transfers you get a verbal offer from the principal, but then it takes some time for HR to follow up with the paperwork.

However, they are waaay late in the hiring process and voluntary transfer season is closed without the approval of both principals. There’s still a lot of open positions at other schools and usually at this point principals have to hire from outside the district - typically new teachers or people who are moving.

Yeah I have a few interviews lined up at other schools already. Just found that email confusion to be strange this morning. I never even interviewed at MBLI but MCPS offered me the job

If you are new to teaching absolutely don’t take a job with MBLI. You won’t get the support you need as a new teacher with no school infrastructure in place. If you are an experienced teacher coming into the system you’ll be okay and can transfer after a couple years.
