If you have moral issues with explicit lying, you can sidestep. If you don't want to say dead uncle Joe has car trouble, just say "oh he couldn't make it today". My great aunt recently introduced me to my own grandfather as if we were strangers and instead of saying "how could you forget who we are" I just said "oh yes, we've met, hi, how are you". It's just not fair to someone with dementia to shove it in their face all day. |
