I literally said I have things about lamb that I don’t agree with and I report them to the admin. I have never found them to be mean or unsupportive.

You are saying that discussing the complaints publicly is wrong though.

The people commenting that the closure is inappropriate are correct and brave. Who cares if other parents talk shit. Any parent who is ok with the way tomorrow was handled is privileged and delusional.

LAMB teachers buck broke the admins and parents during Covid and now everyone knows it’s pointless to complain about missing class time.

Google news does not turn up any reports of a single other elementary school in the country closing. Also, LAMB doesn't seem to actually be bringing attention to the closure at all. If the only people who even know LAMB is closed are the parents affected... what exactly is the protest?

Has anyone heard back from anyone (the ED, any admin at school) about whether they will add a day/days in June to make up for the snow day and the unexpected closure on Monday? Or has anyone heard back from the Director on anything related to Monday?

Just a rando seeing this post now. And it is INSANE that they announced on Friday that school would be closed on Monday… just wanted to validate everyone who is incensed. It’s goddamn nuts.

Lamb parent here. They announced FRIDAY AFTERNOON. The worst part was that the title of the closure notice was just “A day without an immigrant”. I almost missed it entirely but for my phone blowing up with other parents freaking out. They did eventually send out some notice much later. I could not get care and ended up taking the whole day off. It was not handled well at all IMO.

Seriously this post is the same 5 people posting over and over again. I can tell by the tone and language used on parent square - same 5 out of 600 families complaining. I had two kids graduate from lamb and it has been a good experience. Kids well prepared for middle. If you’re not a lamb family yet, I wouldn’t rely on this chain to help you decide. These families will soon be DCI’s problem.

I don’t even go to LAMB but just read this thread for first time. It’s very clearly the same handful (maybe 2-3, maybe less) people posting over and over again. Same sentence structure, language choice, tone, posting pattern.

The anger, hostility, and defensiveness are very intense. I guess it’s cathartic to take it out on an anonymous forum like this. But I do find it sad- less about LAMB (which I don’t know anything about), and more about how we as adults talk to each other.

I WILL say that the anger on this thread is not consistent with the overall tenor of dialogue in either of my children’s class WhatsApp groups OR in the ParentSquare app OR in the many friend groups.

I will ALSO say that I feel very sorry for the person who feels this much anger to their child’s school and I’m truly baffled why they keep sending their kid there. You will put up with 8 years of a school you hate for a semi-decent middle school that has many of the same shortfallings?

There are many things to be said about LAMB, but our family has found the community to be kind and loving in a way that is so very needed in this world. If that’s not what you value in a school, there are other places to go.

Imagine what would happen if LAMB announced it was closing for a month in protest of racism. What do you think would happen? I'll tell you what would happen. There would be a bunch of parents taking to ParentSquare to talk about how proud they are of the school to take a stand against racism and how this is a minor sacrifice in the cause towards eradicating racism. There would be a whole bunch of other parents who would seethe in private because wouldnt dare say anything because if they complained, they would be seen as racist. The same thing is happening here.

There are thousands of hypotheticals that you could come up with, some of which would be very interesting to engage and unpack in person, none of which are worth the calories of engaging with on this medium.

None of them matter, because at the end of the day, no one is forcing you to send your child to LAMB. Literally by definition you have other choices.

I always hate these threads on LAMB because, again, there are a handful of parents who just seem super disgruntled and unhappy, regardless of what LAMB does. I have met a few of these parents in real life, and I always find them self-righteous and entitled. I always wish they would leave the school community and either go to their local DCPS school (where there is no way they would get the amount of indulgence that they get at LAMB) or a private school (which is what I think they want LAMB to be).

As for the day off on Monday, I had three different offers from friends to watch my kids or do rotating play dates. There is a real community there, but you have to be willing to actually engage with the community, and not just complain to the administration all the time about how much you hate the school.

I think you've inadvertently provided an example of the liberal intolerance that pervades LAMB.

What in here is liberal intolerance? I don’t care about people’s politics and I actually stated no opinion about whether I thought closing school on Monday was a good idea or not. I actually do find it annoying, but it tracks with everything else that LAMB has always done.

My point was just I find some of the parents to be super entitled. They constantly have a tone of disgust for the school, they complain without offering to engage on solutions, and they expect the school to cater solely to them and their families. It is always them vs the school.

Nothing to do with politics, I just think that if you have that attitude at any type of school that’s private, you will never be happy. I personally try to avoid those parents because they are just exhausting.

It’s entitled to expect your kid’s elementary school to stay open? lady that is literally the bare minimum requirement for a school.

It's entitled to expect that a parent decides when the school opens and closes. That is the administration's call, and if you can't accept that, you are in fact entitled.

DC law bars teachers from going on strike for *any* reason. LAMB is breaking the law here.
