Lamb is closing Monday Feb 3

LAMBis closing because so many STAFF aren’t coming in that day. What utter chaos these “educators” are causing towards children and families.

Anyway, we will never know. (And this is a digression but in moments like this I always think of a friend of mine who once confessed to coming on DCurban mom and assuming multiple different “identities” and posting 20+ times per day during her third maternity leave because she was bored)

All that to say I never trust anything I read on here at all anymore.

I won’t debate the day off thing. It’s a conversation that can’t be had with any thoughtfulness over this medium.

I WILL say that the anger on this thread is not consistent with the overall tenor of dialogue in either of my children’s class WhatsApp groups OR in the ParentSquare app OR in the many friend groups.

I will ALSO say that I feel very sorry for the person who feels this much anger to their child’s school and I’m truly baffled why they keep sending their kid there. You will put up with 8 years of a school you hate for a semi-decent middle school that has many of the same shortfallings?

There are many things to be said about LAMB, but our family has found the community to be kind and loving in a way that is so very needed in this world. If that’s not what you value in a school, there are other places to go.

Imagine what would happen if LAMB announced it was closing for a month in protest of racism. What do you think would happen? I'll tell you what would happen. There would be a bunch of parents taking to ParentSquare to talk about how proud they are of the school to take a stand against racism and how this is a minor sacrifice in the cause towards eradicating racism. There would be a whole bunch of other parents who would seethe in private because wouldnt dare say anything because if they complained, they would be seen as racist. The same thing is happening here.

There are thousands of hypotheticals that you could come up with, some of which would be very interesting to engage and unpack in person, none of which are worth the calories of engaging with on this medium.

None of them matter, because at the end of the day, no one is forcing you to send your child to LAMB. Literally by definition you have other choices.

I always hate these threads on LAMB because, again, there are a handful of parents who just seem super disgruntled and unhappy, regardless of what LAMB does. I have met a few of these parents in real life, and I always find them self-righteous and entitled. I always wish they would leave the school community and either go to their local DCPS school (where there is no way they would get the amount of indulgence that they get at LAMB) or a private school (which is what I think they want LAMB to be).

As for the day off on Monday, I had three different offers from friends to watch my kids or do rotating play dates. There is a real community there, but you have to be willing to actually engage with the community, and not just complain to the administration all the time about how much you hate the school.

I think you've inadvertently provided an example of the liberal intolerance that pervades LAMB.

What in here is liberal intolerance? I don’t care about people’s politics and I actually stated no opinion about whether I thought closing school on Monday was a good idea or not. I actually do find it annoying, but it tracks with everything else that LAMB has always done.

My point was just I find some of the parents to be super entitled. They constantly have a tone of disgust for the school, they complain without offering to engage on solutions, and they expect the school to cater solely to them and their families. It is always them vs the school.

Nothing to do with politics, I just think that if you have that attitude at any type of school that’s private, you will never be happy. I personally try to avoid those parents because they are just exhausting.

It’s entitled to expect your kid’s elementary school to stay open? lady that is literally the bare minimum requirement for a school.

It's entitled to expect that a parent decides when the school opens and closes. That is the administration's call, and if you can't accept that, you are in fact entitled.

DC law bars teachers from going on strike for *any* reason. LAMB is breaking the law here.

Is anyone going to call OSSE?

I like how the protest is to do literally nothing except skip work. That'll show em.

LAMB parent here. Super embarrassed by this entire thread. Who trashes their child’s school like this on a public forum? What is the point? Talk about pointless behavior….

We certainly don’t think LAMB is perfect, and I agree with some but not all of the points in here. But we work hard and collaboratively with our teachers, with the admin, and with the PTO to improve things. We have absolutely found that they are open to dialogue and discussion.

But to post about it publicly like this is so tacky.

lol. If you don’t want your school to get trashed then don’t do things that make it deserve to get trashed. moreover your post is just more evidence of a sick culture at LAMB where eminently reasonable complaints are suppressed as being “mean” or “unsupportive.”

It's been radio silence from the school since they dropped this bomb on parents Friday afternoon.

Ummmm they’re on VACATION. They slammed their computers shut Friday and don’t intend to check anything until Tuesday. They’re relaxing in protest.

I’m loving the subversive parent who asked about protests knowing full well there literally isn’t any. People are just staying home. Ha.

I literally said I have things about lamb that I don’t agree with and I report them to the admin. I have never found them to be mean or unsupportive.

I was just at a birthday party with a bunch of LAMB parents. All of us are pretty nonchalant about the day off and feel like the parent community had done a nice job providing support for parents who needed it. It’s inconvenient, but fine? We all really like the kids teachers and have had good experiences with admin.

I feel like this is only a scandal on DC urban moms?

I LOVE LAMB. Still, I feel disappointed by this. I understand the need to stand in solidarity with immigrants but think it is amazing they don’t feel the need to stand for what is best for the students or think how this impacts families.

What made it worse was that Jessica’s message did not even offer an apology. She acknowledged the negative impact (loss of instruction and child care needs) but could not even bother to apologize for it.

It's not really about the inconvenience. It's that it's crystal clear LAMB doesn't care about providing an instructional day like it was supposed to. Some of us have kids with IEPs who actually need their professional services. Some of us think school is valuable and a day off at home isn't the same thing.

Is the LAMB calendar going to be extended into the summer to make up for it?

You are saying that discussing the complaints publicly is wrong though.

trust me, the parents are not all “nonchalant.” They know they are not allowed to say anything negative. We went through the exact same thing with Covid.
