They don't care. Find a better hobby, like caring for the downtrodden, instead of fighting with people who don't.

We can't avoid our family every holiday so...

You don't need bible quotes. They won't listen anyway, so just eat pie, drink wine, and ignore them, feign a stomach virus and go home at the earliest possible moment.

No thanks don’t plan to be part of the silent majority.

Actually, last time my sister-in-law explained to my aunts, what a late term abortion is, and that children are not killed outside the womb after they’re born healthy.

They didn’t know that ending an ectopic pregnancy was considered an abortion. They just thought that was considered healthcare and we explained that no now it’s considered an abortion under the new laws.

She explained all the different types of problems. A baby could have in the womb that could make it impossible for them to live outside the womb, and that sometimes ending the pregnancy was better for everybody involved than having a deformed baby continue to grow in your belly.

They were very surprised to hear this. It was nice to see them finally hear the truth.

Also, when they realize that the anti-gay movement uses Leviticus to prove their point and also you’re not supposed to eat shrimp they realized you’re right that doesn’t make sense. And then we pointed out that Jesus never said anything about that except for her to love your neighbor, and they were open to that.

What you say about abortion is science, not religion.

Regarding your whole post, It really is too bad that people are so ignorant.

Not to religious people, it's religion. They go to church and are told these lies over and over and over for decades.

SOME religious people are told these lies -- evangelicals, for instance. Many other religions are very modern when it comes to reproductive rights. It's only belief in the supernatural that they are in the dark ages about.

This.

There’s a Bible passage to support or condemn anything you want it to and Christian Nationalists are the experts at using it to their advantage and dismissing what doesn’t serve them.

It used to make me crazy, but now I see it for what it is and focus on what’s real for me and letting my experience of love, forgiveness and compassion inform my actions and having faith that it’s enough.

What about Christians who are not Christian nationalists? Seems like they use religion in the same way. It's what religious people do -- Always looking for something Jesus, or their divinity of choice, said or did to justify their thoughts or actions.

How about just focusing on what is good and decent, leaving religion out of it. Religion is a crutch for whomever uses it.

Like who? Are you talking about people you know? Or imagining such people? "Seems like" is doing a lot work here.

The sanctimonious Hell-bound twats who support Trump’s stance on immigration are the ridiculous ones.

I hope they enjoy burning forever.

Dark ages is not an accurate description of theology. Do you really think the theology phDs at Princeton Divinity College are living in the dark ages?

If you knew all the verses, you would realize how much they contradict each other.

I may not have memorized the verses, but when I was learning them, it was clear to me how ridiculous they were.

Maybe I’ll create a website of all hypocritical contradictory versus there are in the Bible

You are missing the point of this huge body of work entirely. Everything has context. A single quote is generally meaningless and/or can be given lots of meanings by changing context.

Not to mention if PP thinks serious Christians haven't already noticed the apparent contradictions and done the work to create reams and reams of systematic theology dealing with it over the millenia people have been studying the Bible...I don't know what to say.

It's as if to DCUM the entire discipline of theology doesn't exist, divinity schools don't exist, and people can't possibly use their intelligence on their faith.

No - that's not it at all. SOME religious people rely strictly on the Bible, others, as you mention, are much more sophisticated. However, they all believe (or say they believe) in God - a supernatural being, who is never seen, who people used to think lived up in the sky (when they didn't understand atmosphere) and still think he's in heaven, and if you're Christian, believe that his son, Jesus, is up there too and if you're Catholic, you are taught to believe that his mother, Mary - a virgin, no less, is up there too. Yes -- there are many intelligent people who say they believe this.

Are you suggesting that the theology PhDs at Princeton Divinity College are better than Christians who believe in the supernatural? Are you suggesting that Princeton theology PhDs don't believe in the supernatural? Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised, but I doubt they advertise it.

Are you a theology PhD from Princeton?

Unfortunately, we all go to the same place when we die --back into the atmosphere -- like our beloved pets and the autumn leaves.

In my experience, quoting Bible passages is done by good, religious people who know the Bible and, in their opinion, are trying to help people

In my experience it’s hypocrites trying to justify terrible actions or someone trying to show they are more religious than you.

Mine too. Also quoting the Bible seems very unoriginal. Don't have your own thoughts on the subject - Ok- quote the Bible. Let's hear from the Big Guy in the Sky.
