Exactly, or apply to Virginia Tech. It's cost if admission is $40,000 plus surcharge of $2,000 for engineering = $42,0000. problem solved

As an example, there are the Blue Ridge Scholarships.

Not true. Blue Ridge Scholarships was started as a matching probmgram by annalum. To this day, gifts of $100,000k willbe matched by the university. Those matches come out of operating costs, not the endowment. Also, the Blue Ridge Scholarsjips are onky $1,000 to $7,000

PS - why is Va Tech COA like $5k lower than UVA (at least for engineering)?
VA Tech =30,000 students, UVA= 17,000

By that "logic," VT should be the more expensive school. And yet, it's not.

You don't how the VA student fees are set. There is no general board in tge Commonwealth setting all the costs for the 30+ public schools. It's the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors who set the fees. Same at the other VA publics. I've been in some board meetings that become brawls because some Visitors are adamant that costs cannot be increased and others insist on raising costs and point to increased operating costs and projected costs for the upcoming year. Please note that real estate, alone, in Blacksburg is much less expensive than downtown Charlottesville. Operating costs, employee costs and cost of food is less there. This is why GMU was more expensive than UVA when my dc was there = real estate in Fairfax near GMU is very expensive. Also, GMU is on a building spree. Each Board sets COA based upon the operating costs and goals (building) of that particular institution

I think they meant the larger school spreads costs over more students so the cost is lower.

I wish we were only paying 17,000 for UVA. 🤣

The 17,000 figure you are referencing is number of students not cost of attending

Was the word “example” confusing ? UVa has a range of different scholarships for people with demonstrated financial need.

show the examples instead of being snarky. Be helpful. And the PP anove re Blue Ridge specifically said "as an example". There are the full-freight plus spending allowance Jefferson scholarships but they are not adminustered by UVA and very difficult to ontain. It is, after all, a PUBLIC institution so does not have the great wealth of a long-established private.

UVA and VT are public schools, each with a Board of Visitors who recommend a set of tuition and fees annually based upon what the Visitors feel is appropriate for its institution.
