So around $45,000/ year for tuition only, without the dorm or meal plan?

Sounds like what you paid is affirming the original post.

We're cheap and the funding goes down every year.

Call your reps. Vote accordingly.

UVA has a $13.6B endowment. They don’t want too much meddling from the state. UVA wants to do things their way. Always have.

Oh, stop the whining. UVA and William Mari got permission to jack their rates and they did. Given that about 0.2% of state residents attend those two schools it makes sense that the funding increase should come tuition not taxpayers. George Mason, ODU JMU and Tech are not Jacky rates like the other two schools

You don't spend your endowment. You spend the money made off the investments.

Right. So a large amount of money invested well equals… checks calculations… more money!

If you want the data - look at the SCHEV appropriations.

https://research.schev.edu/rdPage.aspx?rdReport=finance.FP01_Report&rdRequestForwarding=Form

UVA gets $12k per student from the general fund. VT gets $9500. JMU gets $8000.

A lot of the endowment belongs to specific schools and programs and are for specific purposes. The medical school for example wouldn't let its endowment be spent to spent to subsidize undergraduates.

At this point, UVA isn't even an option for us.

The state can always simultaneously not allow tuition increases and not increase funding. The schools will figure it out if forced
