My friends got old

People are coming down hard on op but I kind of get what she is saying. I feel like for some people at a certain point they just decide to be old and stop trying and it is very sad.

If I am walking with someone who can't comfortably walk as fast as I can, I slow down. It doesn't matter if they are children, older people, or people who aren't as fit as me. When I was a child, people slowed down for me, and I hope that when I'm old (or get injured, or out of shape), they will do the same. It's not hard.

I do notice, and sometimes judge, but I try to tell my inner voice to shut up and I definitely don't say anything to them.

This is really sad for me also, I mainly hate to see it in my siblings where they simply can’t find the motivation to care about their health. They aren’t short on time or have underlying health issues, they are just lazy and prefer to spend hours every day lying on the couch watching tv. I don’t get it - I want to do my best to be around to enjoy my family, and try to be as mobile as I can in old age! This should be a priority for all of us.

The thing I am struggling with is my friends have not made this decision and it has become a constant annoyance because they cannot keep up with me. I have a friend staying with me who has complained nonstop about the stairs in my house. They have been constantly out of breath walking around, like gasping for air. My other friend constantly complains that I walk too fast when we go anywhere. In my defense, I’m not really even walking, it’s a very slow pace. They’re all always complaining about aches and pains, which is mind blowing to me because I have RA (which has dramatically improved with working out!) If you workout and are older, do you have this issue? I feel like all my friends have suddenly gotten very old. It’s like hanging out with grandparents. Help me work through this. What happened to my fun friends?!

Just wait a bit, it will happen to you soon enough. Around 60 you’ll wish you hadn’t worn those knees and out with running.

One time, this guy handed me a picture of him, he said "Here's a picture of me when I was younger." Every picture is of you when you were younger.

I just dropped the friends who judged me and wouldn't slow down to walk. Win win.

OP here. Thank you! This is it. There are many posters reading into my post. I love my friends! I don’t want to see them get old and decrepit. We had so much fun over the years. It was quite a shock at how out of shape they’ve gotten. I did slow down for them and stop often. Recently, I read the body ages at 44 and 60. I feel like it isn’t 44 but more like 50.

And as I mentioned, I have a chronic health condition. I do not run because of it. But working out is important for my health in dealing with it.
