No one I know of is looking at Duke or Vandy. UVA is as far south as most black folks I know are willing to go UNLESS to go to an HBCU cause racist townies without the nurturing embrace of an entire school administration is suboptimal...

Really no such thing as high profile HBCUs. To turn your nose up at Duke but then your DS attends Morehouse is comical.

Yeah, pretty much.

HBCUs are great for a lot of people.

But have observed the same as a previous poster who broke it down. Duke, Vanderbilt, Rice, and certain - but not all - Ivies over Morehouse, Spelman, Howard. Preference for south for AA. Ivies tend to be more internationals.

Interesting. A good friend's sister had her kids in Jack and Jill. They are now in college. Maybe not as widespread as it used to be, but appears to still exist in certain communities.

Jack and Jill is whack.

Not too many are in to those type of organizations anymore.

Just say you don't know any wealthy back people in the DMV. A majority of them are in JJ.

There is nothing whack about Jack and Jill. The Jack and Jill organization is still prevalent and well attended amongst UMC black families. The scholarships for college, social networking, internships, future employment opportunities, etc. benefit many students.

Duke is one of the most highly sought after universities by high achieving black students and is known for its amazing black community/organized BSU! It’s consistently chosen by black students who get into “better colleges,” because the community is amazing there

Who keeps using the term AA? Black people are not all from Africa. Almost half of Brazil is made up of Black people. Haitians are Black. Black people come to our country from countries all over the world. If you are fifth generation French who’s Black you describe yourself as French, not African.

The reality is that recruiters overlook black applicants from those schools and will recruit from HBCUs.

This was DC's experience. Friends at Howard had a much easier time getting any tech position than he did.

black kids at duke are academically superior to black kids in the ivy league

1) No diversity grade inflation

2) High achieving Black students in Mid Atlantic, NC, and Texas have higher test scores than those in NE

3) Larger black student pool

4) Duke is a top school for the black elite of NJ

5) Duke is a top school for southern black old money

Ironic that pp left off Emory when Black grads from Emory do better in the job market than all 3. I know several black Vandy grads that are.managers of gas stations.

Because we AAs are a specific and unique ethnicity with our own history, culture, and experiences.

I don't think I know a single black manager of a gas station. What are you talking about?
