DC Black Upper Class & Georgetown University

DC Metro has the highest concentration of wealthy AA in the country and the highest concentration area of black students in elite private schools in the country

with Georgetown being the wealthiest student body in the country, do alot of wealthy AA choose Georgetown?

Wealthy AA in general or from DMV?

If the latter, the wealthy AA from our highly competitive DC high school went to Ivy, T20.

I recently moved to Baltimore area from DC area. Baltimore area has set truly wealthy black people. DC has a lot of black GS 13 or 14 government employees. There is a difference. The DC ones make good money compared to rest of black folks in the country, but they are not wealthy.

My family fits your description, OP. We are encouraging our kids to broaden their horizons and leave the DC area for college.

Upper Middle Class black families are not only the majority of black families in DC Metro, but are also the majority of black families in DC Proper

The OP is not talking about GS 13/14 families....

I can't speak to comparing DC to Baltimore in this regard but there are truly wealthy AA in DC. For some, they are legacy themselves and their kids go to Ivy +. I think the earlier PP noted - many local DC families/kids want to go away and do not apply to Georgetown or choose elsewhere if they are accepted to a school further away.

Yes, not wealthy.
Class doesn't necessarily equal wealth anyway. There can be lower class people with a lot of money from their government salaries.

From the ones I know, they aim for ivies first, Georgetown is the safety.

This promises to be an entertaining thread. So far nobody seems to have any actual insight into UMC AA families. Also, OP, even wealthy people have to apply to Georgetown. Nobody just chooses to go.

NP, I mean, full pay with a 1500 SAT, they're getting in. Everywhere.

That can only happen if they are aware that they need to make AA visible in the app, although that can be as simple as including the National African American Recognition Program award in the award section.

Also, I was reading an article the other day that mentioned yield protection of high stats AA applicants.

HAHA.... yea. No. That's not true. The only "full pay" AA families I know with 1500 scores sent their kids to Spelman and Howard. Both applied to Georgetown. Neither admitted.
