You are so right about the black UMC split between HBCU or Ivy League.

HBCU presidents famously thought the Obamas weren’t so warm or accommodating since they’re Ivy.

Will be interesting to see if Kamala wins how she treats HBCUs since she’s a product of one. From what Michelle writes in her book about Princeton, it seems to me she hated it and wished she attended an HBCU. Michelle’s high school classmate, good friend, and maid of honor was Santita Jackson, Jesse Jackson’s daughter. She was accepted to Harvard but chose Howard U instead. I am sure she knew Kamala there. It’s rather cool she went to high school with Michelle Obama and college with Kamala Harris.

Can we stop pretending that the vast majority of HBCU students could get into T25s let alone ivys.

This ^. I recognize that Howard and Co have great outcomes, but the students aren’t Ivy League. They, on average, are pretty average students looking at their stats.

Georgetown isn't a "safety" for anybody not even IVY admits.

Then you must not be in the circles where there are many black hedge fund, VC, private practice owning families.

My husband and I both went to Princeton. We have young children with HHI 400. We want our daughters to go to spelman (that’s at least my dream for them).

We're in the same boat with HHI 700k, but wife and I went to Harvard. I'd be fine with DD going to Spelman or Howard (I couldn't afford to go there back in the day), but we are hoping for Harvard/MIT.

Glad I found this thread. My parents were middle class, dad a mechanic and mother a federal government employee, I graduated from Hampton University and my sibling from Duke.

Many high earning families of DC propers kids attended both of our universities.

Anonymous wrote:This promises to be an entertaining thread. So far nobody seems to have any actual insight into UMC AA families. Also, OP, even wealthy people have to apply to Georgetown. Nobody just chooses to go.

NP, I mean, full pay with a 1500 SAT, they're getting in. Everywhere.

That can only happen if they are aware that they need to make AA visible in the app, although that can be as simple as including the National African American Recognition Program award in the award section.

Also, I was reading an article the other day that mentioned yield protection of high stats AA applicants.

No one yield protects against high stat AA.

but why are you reactivating an old thread?

The ones I know of went to Cornell, Yale, and Georgetown.

Full pay, I assume.

with Georgetown being the wealthiest student body in the country, do alot of wealthy AA choose Georgetown?

I don’t think Georgetown is the wealthiest student body. Where are you getting that from?

As an outsider, I find it interesting how well-to-do black families look upon admissions to the most elite schools like it's a menu.

DC UMC black kids do not want to stay in DC for college.

Lol. It’s all that affirmative action. Didn’t you know? If you’re black you can go anywhere! You don’t even have to be smart. (This is sarcasm)
