Report of a massive fight at Clarksburg HS

Then written up negatively that you didn't do enough. Then Having to explain to unemployment the circumstances of educators because the school system lied about your reason for leaving to hack any small benefits that you might have accrued. It's not only that they don't support, or dont want to pay us, but they try to ruin our careers when we devote 100% of our lives to teaching kids

Most teachers are paid pretty well for a 10 month job. If you aren't happy, quit.

Nobody with a journalism background goes on an unverified “tip”, so a teenager told you something… lol and you reported it?

Or the source could be a teacher and a known reliable source to Moderately MoCo? Why do you presume it was a teen? He’s had multiple teachers and MCPS staff guest post and interviewed on his blog.

The credibility bar for the conservative website moderately moco is low.

Has he published false news?

I’m not sure it’s fair to say he published “news”.

In other words, you don’t have any examples.

This thread is an example dimwit .. was it 1 massive fight or 7 individual fights. Hmmm

This thread is a perfect example of fear-mongering.

Or, it happened and as usually MCPS supports the behavior and doesn't care about the behaving students at risk from this behavior as well as the staff.

Certainly not. How dumb are you? This BCC parent says we need to band together and pressure the Board and MCPS to keep violent students OUT of our schools!!!

We need to pay for expanded alternate schools for these kids. They do not belong in mainstream schools. Period.

This. The only way out of this is to have a massive group of parents show up at every BOE meeting and speak out against what's happening. Enough is enough. We need to stop being fearful of what other people might say about us.

Aren't there federal requirements mandating the least restricted environment fur all students? That is where all those separate programs went

For a violent student, least restrictive should be a separate program in a separate building, behind bars if necessary.

Just us pushing mgmts flawed resource depleted curriculum( or lack there of). It's just not a respected profession.

Most teachers are paid decently for a 10 month job. The other staff like bus drivers, support staff, etc are not paid well.

This again.

Come teach for a year and see if you feel the same way.

When I worked for the county at an equally hard job, if not harder, I made less with a masters and 12 months. They pay well for a county job as they don’t require a masters and help pay for it. If they are unhappy they are welcome to quit. Given this, I could not blame them if they quit. I would and did for safety reasons.

Teachers are quitting, so clearly they don’t like the conditions.

But I am curious, what county job did you have that you assume is harder than teaching and pays less?

You don't think any county jobs are harder than teaching? What about the police, fire fighters, social workers, public health nurses, etc. Social workers and public health nurses are 12 month employees and benefits are not as good with the county as MCPS. And, you don't think they aren't working long hours?

There's only one alternative school, currently, and after a while, students are sent back to general Ed. This needs to stop. We need more seats, and they stay there until they graduate or age out.

MCPS can’t even hire enough staff for regular schools. How do you think it would be able to attract enough specialized staff to greatly expand this program?

It’s really a 12 month job masquerading as a 10 month job. When DH quit and went back to engineering, it was insane how much free time he suddenly had. The timing could not have been better for us as I was diagnosed with bone marrow cancer. We never could have gotten through that first year of treatment and parenting two kids if he needed to do grading and planning.

Decently compared to most red states, and Moco is an extremely high cost of living area. The problem is, 2 teachers cannot buy a house in most of the county. And, those teachers can make a lot more, with a lot less stress, doing something else. It used to be worth it, making less money because the benefits were so good. But those have been whittled away, so now it's mediocre pay (unless you've been around forever with me benefits

For those who think teaching is so easy, summers and holidays off, etc., why aren't you doing it? It either is too hard or doesn't pay enough.

Staff shortages suggest otherwise. Try it!

Suspension doesn’t really mean anything anymore since the kids just come when they feel like it anyways. What they need is in-school suspension with no phones for a day and someone supervising. But again the issue would be optics, not accountability.

MCPS admin here - we are not allowed to suspend without permission from our area director. School systems try their hardest to keep suspension numbers down since it affects our rankings. I don't think parents realize that restorative practices are now required as a part of school discipline policies due to a MD bill passed back in 2019. As we've seen, these practices are not working and are making the jobs for the adults in our buildings almost impossible. Not to mention the disruption these behaviors cause for our students desperately trying to learn while feeling safe. Enough is enough.

This was an Obama era law that was passed because too many of a certain race were being suspended.

Now, no suspensions but anarchy in the schools.

Moderately Moco is one guy with an agenda who refers to himself as we. But he is the most fair of them all. Moco show has would write three sentences and then slap in a police news release. Moco 360 would add reasons why suspending is bad. Robert Dyer would make it seem like Marc Elrich himself came in and beat up the security guard. Montgomery community media would cover it one week later and then store reporter would cover it two weeks after that as breaking news. Pick your poison

Former medic/EMT (and trained firefighter) turned teacher - teaching is harder. 💯

LRE has been the law since the 70s. The programs were eliminated because they're expensive.

Nope
They were closed because they had low test scores.
