Truthfully, how often do your kids eat fast food?

I don't think the menus are all that different. Chicken nuggets have high fat and sodium, grilled chicken nuggets only has a small amount of fat and sodium.

The salads have all the info needed to make a decision.

It’s really what you choose to eat there. 4 chicken nuggets instead of 12. Small French fires instead of large. Plain hamburger instead of Big Mac.

Common sense don’t overeat and choose the healthiest and there’s not a problem.

I really miss Boston Market. The one by us in Burke closed. Sad! Wish someone would open something else like it.

We almost never get fast food like McDonald’s. My son’s grandparents will get it for him as a treat in their care or something, or sometimes on a road trip well get it.

But we do order in a pizza once a week. And probably have chipotle twice a month.

That said my kids certainly have too much junk food. One of my kids has adhd and is on medication that suppresses his appetite, so to be honest, I care more that he gets sufficient calories and grows. He eats a lot of healthy stuff but also a good amount of junky snacks like tortilla chips or goldfish.

When travelling? Although we usually stop at Starbucks because caffeine and they have peanut butter sandwiches. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with getting it once a month, I just don’t like it so we don’t.

I love the parents who express disgust at the occasional McDonald’s meal but turn a blind eye to their kitchens stocked with chicken nuggets and highly-processed snacks.

Of course, not all McDonald’s-avoiders are like that.

Ours get fast food about 1x per week (McDonald's), occasionally 2.

Yes - they aren't fast food but just as bad. High fat and sodium. A granola bar vs a snickers bar. It is marketed as being healthier.

Chipotle, yes. Cava, no. Cava is reasonably healthy unless you go berserk. Low calories, veggies, low sugar depending on the sauces.

Oh calm down immigrant. Plenty of American eat like this as well. I’m a third generation American (great grandparents from Germany) and grandparents cooked at home and did not allow sugar, I was raised much the same.

I’m like a 13th generation immigrant and also eat healthy.

Applegate chicken nuggets are significantly less bad than McDonald’s. Sure, breading isn’t great but simply not being submerged in saturated fats for 5 minutes makes them better.

McDonalds / Burger King, not often. But they have a huge bowl of ice cream nearly every night, and plenty of chips and cookies in their lunch boxes or after school. We eat 'fast casual' (Cava / Chipotle / etc) maybe once every month or two, usually for lunch when we're out and about, and get takeout/delivery for dinner (which I doubt is that much better than fast food) once every couple of weeks. Kids are teens, have healthy attitudes about food, and are in good shape. I'm not worried.

Once a week and it’s not a big deal lol

Yep - they’re living in a fantasy land

All the time. My kid is in HS. I don’t micromanage his food choices. He has his own money and goes out with friends. But I also *gasp* take him through the drive thru on the way home from very late practices once a week because he’s starving and I don’t have the energy to put a meal on the table at 10 which means he often resorts to highly processed frozen food anyway. I figure it balances out because most nights I cook a healthy well balanced dinner (usually vegetarian) and he typically snacks on fruit, yogurt, etc. When my kids were young I was all about healthy non-processed foods. But banning foods was never a thing in our home because it backfires.

Our family does pizza once a week (either homemade or delivery). The kids eat cut veggies or fruit and milk or water with it. They are 2 and 4. I didn't even consider this fast food until I read this chain. So I guess our answer is once a week. I feel zero guilt over this meal.

I'm not going to judge anyone for McDonald's once a week, but nuggets you bake at home ARE better for you. You can buy the Perdue nuggets (with or without the hidden veggies) and there isn't any ingredient on the label that is unpronounceable or sketchy. Much better than a deep fried fast food nugget, for sure.

Drive-through style fast food, maybe once every 3 months.

Fast casual, once a week.
