As an alleged "Democrat" you are comfortable handing the Senate majority over to Republicans, very few who embrace Hogan's version of politics? Sure hand the Senate majority to the extreme right politicians who brought us TRUMP, Dobbs and other extreme policies. You either aren't a Democrat or aren't very aware of how politics work. Hogan will vote with the Democrats when it matters but in the grand scheme of things that doesn't matter: because extreme Republicans will be controlling the agenda and the Senate. It's really very simple. |
I agree with everything you said, but I don't trust the rest of the Republicans. I'd vote for Hogan if he caucused with the Democrats. |
That's like saying you'd vote for Hogan if he were A Person Who Isn't Hogan. Hogan has been a Republican his whole life. He's had plenty of opportunities to stop being one, but yet he's still a Republican. He's not going to stop now. |
| Cool. I think the Senate matters and we're not just voting for the individual candidate, we're voting for party control. So I'll be canvassing for Alsobrooks this weekend. Super easy to sign up online with the campaign, short shifts. |
What's the record so far? |
Hogan tolerated abortion rights in Maryland but doesn't think Marylanders should have a say in whether women in other states own their own bodies. The word "emotional" is not the problem here. https://transcripts.cnn.com/show/ip/date/2024-02-14/segment/02 BASH: Well, actually, because you brought it up again, before I go to immigration, you know that there is going to be a measure on the ballot that presumably you will be on too to make abortion rights a part of the Maryland Constitution. What do you think about that? HOGAN: Mm-hmm. Well, I -- look, I understand why this is such an important and emotional issue for women across Maryland and across the country. This -- I already took a position on this bill. I said it wasn't really necessary. There's no threat to the protection of these rights in Maryland, where it's been -- it's already a law. Voters have already weighed in on it. It's settled law on the decision. |
Just because you wish there weren’t many moderate Dem supporters of Hogan doesn’t make it so. People are so concerned about this race in “true blue” Maryland precisely because of moderate voters’ support of Hogan. I actually like Alsobrooks and would love if our senators were Alsobrooks and Hogan, but if I have to choose between the 2 I’m picking Hogan. |
He didn't tolerate it, he knew it would be overturned by the MD House/Senate if he tried to ban abortion in any way, shape or form. He's a Republican through and through that was only kept in check by the legislature. He is going down, Maryland will not be the reason we lose the Senate (if we do - I'm optimistic we will keep it) |
| I hate being harangued by extremist Dems who tell me how I’m supposed to vote. You guys don’t get it anymore than the MAGA folks. There are lots of us in the middle and when there’s an actual human candidate who I feel represents my “purple” then I’m going to vote for him. When you start yelling about control of the senate blah blah I tune out just as quickly as I tune out the crazy republicans. I am a moderate democrat in MD voting for Hogan. |
+1,000 |
Hogan is McConnells pick he will never vote with Dems |
So ... Republicans are a toxic, harmful algae bloom? Is that what you're saying here? Yeah, I mean that's a mild way of putting it. But, sure. |

OP thinks Republicans are a toxic, harmful algae bloom. OK. Not going to argue that one. |
