Here is a question re: waitlist at RCF immersion

My comment about teacher turnover is just based on my kids’ experience there. It is my impression only. Some of the regular teachers have been there forever. Only a few of the immersion teachers are long timers.

An AP once told me it’s hard to find legit native speakers who are also certified MCPS teachers. And they have to be willing to still do MCPS curriculum, just in Spanish- there’s no “immersion curriculum”. So I think it’s maybe a hard job?

Still worth it, I hope that comes across in my post. You wind up with kids who speak another language without any special enrichment!

One of my kids goes to RCF. Turnover at my other kid’s school is much higher, so all this is anecdotal. Am sure you can try to find actual data somewhere. I don’t see anything nefarious going on at RCF if that’s what the wide-eyed Sligo PP is getting at. Great school, great program, and we feel very blessed at how fluent in Spanish my kid is.

I have kids at RCF and wouldn’t describe the Spanish teachers at RCF as having higher turnover at all.

8 of the 11 immersion teachers at RCF have been at the school for a very long time (several of them 15 plus years).

2 of the immersion teachers retired last year after many years of teaching.

I wasn’t suggesting anything nefarious. I was simply surprised PP had said that about turnover because my impression was that these immersion teaching spots are were (as it goes at MCPS anyway) generally good gigs.

What about Assistant Principal and the Counselors? If we need to talk to someone other than Principal?

Talk about smug. That was an old counselor who was known to have a smugness aura, rolling eyes and saying inappropriate thing toward child, this adult was protected by a Principal of same religion.

Thank goodness she is gone.

But I feel sorry for the school she went to.

There are 100 at this particular school? That is fabulous that they have that many counselors for one ES.

What are you talking about?! The old counselor was Jewish and the old principal was not. The old counselor could be a bit smug at times, but she was incredibly helpful to both of my children (who are now both in HS) when they struggled with different issues in elementary school. And the old principal and assistant principal were also great! I have no idea what's going on at RCF now, but the old administration was fantastic.

PP not immediate PP to answer your question classes are typically under 30 in immersion. You can contact the school directly to ask what it is this year to give you a more recent number.
